    Introduction

The C188 AG Truck is an agricultural and utility aircraft designed and manufactured by Cessna between 1966 and 1983 with almost 4000 of all types being built. As an agricultural aircraft, it shares its role with similar aircraft, like the Air Tractor, Piper Pawnee PA-25 and its newer brother the Piper Pawnee Brave PA-36.

In the 1960's Cessna decided to enter into the agricultural aircraft market. After consulting with pilots of their possible needs and requirements, Cessna came up with the design for the AG Truck based around their popular C180 aircraft.

In terms of looks the Cessna can easily be confused for being a Piper Pawnee, which first flew in 1959; but upon closer inspection you'll notice that amongst other things, the C188 is slightly bigger and longer. The C188 also has a more powerful engine and can carry a greater payload, but compared to the Pawnee it's not quite as spritely in the air.

Whilst the primary function and design of the C188 has always been geared around its agricultural ability; in its later years it has found a new lease of life as a glider tug, and is a familiar site around small airfields.

The C188 AG Truck being reviewed here today is designed by Alabeo.

Alabeo, as you might already know (or not know for that matter) has already created some truly wonderful aircraft such as the WACO YMF5, Pitts S2S and Gee Bee Model Z to name but a few, and is the sister company to Carenado (which should tell you a lot about the quality) and is made up of a relatively young team comprising of 3D modelers, digital artists, computer programmers and pilots.

In the relatively short time that Alabeo have been creating flight simulator add-ons, they have managed to establish themselves (rightly so) as a company which produces high quality add-ons renowned for being fun and of a slightly different nature (none of your run of the mill stuff here); the C188 AG truck being a prime example of what fun is all about.

    Installation

Once you have downloading the zip file, it's just a simple case of extracting it, and then placing the created folder into your X-Plane aircraft directory. It's up to you which folder you place it in, but for this kind of aircraft, I'd recommend the General Aviation folder.

Within the C188 AG Truck folder you will see two versions of the aircraft; one for X-Plane 9 and one for X-Plane 10. Depending on which version of X-Plane you're running, you simply select the appropriate ACF file and you're ready to go.

I must point out that for testing the C188 I used the 64 bit version of X-Plane 10. My reason being, that I wanted to see how the included plugins would perform in a 64 bit environment.

In the past, plugins on aircraft for the 64 bit version of X-Plane have caused some users problems; so I was delighted to see that the plugins which Alabeo included with the C188 performed perfectly and without any hiccup whatsoever.

The plugins used enable you to switch internal and exterior views as well as controlling the spray elements of the C188, but more about that in a moment.
