I take the warbird skin, depicting "Big Beautiful Doll", to a very rural mountain strip in Alaska (4Z5), for some test hops. My goal? Climb nearly 4000 feet immediately after take-off, and land on the ridge-line of a snow-covered mountain. I know I'm not in a Super Cub, but this is flight simulator, remember?
Was I successful? Oh yes. No problem. I had to keep the brakes locked after bouncing to a stop though!
The possibility to fly in/out of some of the smallest airports in FSX, combined with the outstanding visibility, make this aircraft an excellent choice for touring.
Vertigo has done a top notch job on this aircraft, and they are offering it at a competitive price. The tandem design is mean-looking, and the variety of the tail-gear, or tricycle configuration adds a lot of depth to this product. I felt that the choice of liveries was lacking, not in quantity, but in variance. With so many pretty RV-8's out there, I was expecting some more exotic colors. However, a wonderful layered paint kit is made freely available from Vertigo, of which I intend to use very soon. Rafal Stankiewicz of YoYosims has already made available some outstanding skins, here on FlightSim.Com.
The sound set is among the best I have every heard, for any flight simulator platform. The O-360 sounds are excellent in this RV-8, adding to the overall quality of the entire experience.
I am a very pleased Vertigo Studios customer, and look forward with anticipation to their next product release!
