Visiting Roger Wilco

Here is my trip. It was a beautiful crisp fall day. Visibilities were over 100 miles, and I planned a VFR leg out to the North Adams airport which is tightly nestled in a valley surrounded by the Berkshires which stand about 3100 feet MSL. The fall foliage was just past its peak color stage, so we'd be going away from the colorful trees of eastern MA. After a takeoff on runway 35 at Norwood airport, I turned west and began a climb to 8500 feet, over the clouds and talking to Boston Center for traffic advisories. Due to my inexperience with digital cameras, my enroute photos were all over-exposed. Thanks to my flight companion that accompanied me on this day (Jean Paul Raymond, Aviation Artist), I have inflight photos to share along the way. With a flight time of around 50 minutes, I descended into the mountain valley to make a steep, straight-in approach to runway 29. Light winds made for a great landing.

Upon arriving at the airport, I made my way quickly over to a local grocery store to get a sandwich, and prepare for the meeting. It was a great afternoon to enjoy the peace and solitude at the airport - a hundred miles away from the crowded highways of greater Boston. Here, all I heard was the chirp of birds. A few airplanes sat around, sleeping in the bright sunlight.
