Oh yes, it's real.

The crosswinds thread below was my inspiration for something more extreme.

My pattern. Shows how windy it really is!

On final. Over the threshold, I kicked full left rudder, rotating the plane into the wind! It stopped, and sat there motionless!

Groundspeed zero. Just sitting there with 95 knots on the airspeed indicator!

Very, very, cool! It's not hard to do, you just have to play with the throttle. You can do vertical take-offs and stuff too!

It's quite amusing!

:-lol :-lol

I remember when I was on work exp last year at Denham aerodrome, the instructors told me that they've tried keeping the plane motionless in flight......though not on final approach ;-)

Sowyn!

Hey I have somw shots of doing that in a C-421. I had just 90 knots though. I didn't hover, but I landed. I don't know how to resize pictures, though, or upload them. (Someone did this banner for me, using my screenshots!). So if you don't mind, could I email the pics to you and you post them? If so, Thanks, if not then I understand. Great shots!

Very nice job there with that Cessna! I've done some lunatic things before in FS but that is pretty amusing!

Yeah, she flies backwards.

Actually, when I was in Cadets, we got a glider goin' at a pretty good clip in reverse. That was really fun!
