View Full Version : THE MOST INCREDIBLE SCENERY FOR FLIGHTSIMS

This scenery blows away anything seen in any flightsim made, Tom Curtis is the premier designer and also a American airlines
pilot. He has been remaking the most beautiful scenery from X-Plane 5 and converting to X-Plane 6.40.

Amazing. Is that FS 2002 or some other sim? I've never seen that kind of detail, especially the wakes of the boats and the waves washing ashore...

I've got to get my hands on this scenery...where can I get it?

I agree..that is the most incredible scenery for flight sims...

Yeah, X-Plane is a MUCH better sim that FS2K2. The graphics are 100% better and the sim flies almost perfectly smooth on my "getting a little outdated" system.

Just wish the airports were done better. And it is a lot more difficult to learn to use.

I haven't downloaded the new version of X-Plane yet - I still got 6.23, but after seeing this, I might decide to do it tonight!

Oh, and Dave, that is not FS. It is X-plane. You can get it from X-Plane.com

I have no vested interest in the program... I just think it would be nice to see some other sims posted in this forum! Seeing the same old "take off, flying, on approach, landing, taxiing to gate" posts is kinda getting a little bit boring. I rather enjoy posts from other sims....

Someone posted some "orbiter" screenshots a while back. Those were interesting. There was some other sim (can't remember) that had some posts about it - those were interesting. Geesh - even I posted some X-Plane shots a while back, but there didn't seem to be much interest... ? Oh well!

Im not falling for this. Yes its sweet, but hows the other 99% of the world. Been there done there, not gonna buy the other FSim software, for ive been let down many times.
I think FS2004 in its second year i'll be seeing that, mesh with photoscenery, with VC planes, and sounds at airports, and better ATC and on and on.
Nobodys gonna catch Microsoft FlightSimulator.
X-Plane is always second, and im a 1st place kinda guy.
later...

I'm a little interested in X-Plane, too. How does it stack up out of the box? All i've seen are shots of what appears to be a completely rebuilt X-Plane, and I probably don't have the patience to put up with that much downloading/installing. Secondly, are there any non-photoreal scenery choices? Personally I like FS2002 because of the non-photoreal (I find that at VFR altitudes they're disgustingly blurry, and often don't look nearly as good as a well done generic texture).

Thanks in advance, i'm fairly interested in a new sim (since im seemingly unable to find Fly!2 anywhere in stores and I'm not paying 50$ to get the game and have it shipped to me :-lol).

I'm with you on the X-Plane vs. FS2002 debate. Nice scenery...in some places, but I bought X-Plane because Fs2000 sucked and immediatley boxed X-Plane back up and went back to FS98 until FS2002 was released. X-Plane could be awesome if it had the coverage that we enjoy is Fs2002 and better looking aircraft. I'm positive that X-Plane will keep getting better but for my $70, FS2002 hasn't been beaten yet and if they don't have an "odd" year slump, 2004 will be untouchable.

There is different things, occaisionally. And that is great looking scenery.

The majority of us have Flight Simulator.. Therefore, the majority of us all have something in common we can share. That's why a lot of people like seeing cool screenshots & downloaded a/c, and know that they have the same sim they can use. Indeed, it is nice seeing a different sim from time to time, but maybe the reason you see "the same old take off, flying, on approach, landing, taxiing to gate" is probably for that reason in the above. Anyway, isn't take-off, flying, and on the approach the things aviation enthusiasts like to see? :-wave

cool shots! :-)
The reason I would never move to X-Plane is because MS Flight Simulator is alot more open and flexible, I like all the downloads you can get for it(and the payware add-ons for that matter)
I very rarely see any add-ons for X-Plane... :-)

Jolly nice if you have a Kray Supercomputer to run it. It took my machine 14 minutes just to download the pictures. I should think you get 1 frame every 10 seconds :-)

Well, I must say this is the most attention any of the shots I have posted ever recieved here. Thank you for that!! As for some of the certain comments comments, they only show a very narrow minded attitude for something thats different. I have had FS2002pro since day one, posted many a shots of it here never to get quite the attentions these did. I`m glad you all have responded even if most were negative.

Well you know I like it Jim. Was this the scenery you mentioned in your email? As far as frame rates go X-Plane runs like stink on my machine; faster than FS2002 for sure. I have room in my life for both.

"Jolly nice if you have a Kray Supercomputer to run it. It took my machine 14 minutes just to download the pictures. I should think you get 1 frame every 10 seconds"

Actually, you would be REALLY surprised at the framerates. I am running a 800 MHz P3 with an All-in-Wonder Radeon card. Pretty outdated, huh? The sim flies almost perfectly smooth on my machine... I dunno how the hell they do it, but it is true... In FS, I am lucky if I can get 12 fps (with most sliders maxed).

For all the people who do not like X-Plane, hey, that is fine! I bet this is gonna get some people mad but.... like their website says, "Use the other sim for gaming, use X-Plane when you're ready to see some real flying."

I have nothing against FS - it's great and I play it all the time! X-Plane is just completely different from FS. The flight dynamics of FS are nothing like the flight dynamics of X-Plane. Download the demo and see. It's like comparing apples to oranges. Now I agree that there is a lot more add-ons and a MUCH bigger community for FS - who can argue that. There is also a lot bigger landmass and, need I say, more interesting EARTH landmass in FS. But I think X-Plane will have the whole earth mapped in a few years.

X-Plane just gives you something a little bit different. The sailplane is actually towed up to altitude. You can drop in an X-15 from a bomber like Chuck Yeager (don't slam me if it wasn't the X-15). You can put out a forest fire with a KC-130. You can land the space shuttle by starting your descent at 400,000 ft and 5,000 miles from the runway! And you can even just get into your 747 and fly up into the clouds like FS. It just brings some more interesting things into the mix. Although I do admit, I am used to FS. Just to get my joystick programed like I have it in FS took about 30 minutes! But maybe I am just dumb.

i'll have to seek out X-Plane and give it a go. looks awesome!!

its also nice to see something different from the general FS2002 posts.........anyone got shots of Trainsim? (that should extract the appropriate comment......who's going to be first?)

cheers,

As many others here, Iīm not entirely convinced.
Sure, the shots look real, but after all, these are just textures glued to the ground.
As soon as you descend, it will probably not look half as good... the few scenery objects look very simple...
Are the mountains in the first pic real mesh? I would bet they arenīt, they look like textured as well.
Still, nice set of shots!
