Hello and Happy New Year to all.
I am a licensed pilot and am very happy with FS2K2.....Except:
In the real world, when flying into a major Airport, when given taxi instructions, I would love for the airport maintenance crew to come out in front of me and paint a bright pink dashed line on the taxiway all the way to my destination!!!! Naturally, if you have all of the airport diagrams you can generally figure out where on the field you are, but I would really like some runway and taxiway signs. This is what I'm accustomed to in the "real" world.
Being a closet programmer, I am attempting to dive into this Scenery SDK and try my hand at adding runway and taxiway signs to all of my frequently used airports.
Is there any 3rd party software available for scenery design? or is there a good resource available for the .bgl programming language?
Any direction would be greatly appreciated.

O my God !! :o what a problem that is.
Ok but seriously Its microsofts first time with the atc ai ect. Fs2004 will most likely be a lot better. But I agree that there should be taxiway signs instead of that pink line. But its not that big of a deal I mean its a 70 dallor sim. What do you expect? If I didnt know how much the sim was and I tryed it, I would expect it to be about 200 dallors or more (realy I would!)

I agree with you. They've definitely come a long way since FS4.
I just wanted to attempt to get into the programming end a little more and maybe build some of my local airports to make them more realistic.
Thanks for the input.
By the way, nice plane on your signature!!

I've mentioned before which sim FS need to look at for ideas in a previous post, and in that sim, they managed runway sings and taxiway signs. It is a 1/3 of the price of FS. So why is everyone saying "it is only a $70 sim - what do you expect?"
I expect slightly more from MS considering their programming expertise. If a $30 sim can do it, so can a $70!! :)

If we're talking the FU series, then it's a couple of hundred airports at best versus over 21,000 of FS2002. If there is another 21,000+ airport simulator out there, complete with taxi signs, then please beg my pardon.

One man's meat is another man's poison.
Given that the majority of simmers who have posted on this topic here and in the past are in favour of the pink line I think this is one that can be chalked up to MS delivering an experience that is to be enjoyed and utilised by the largest possible number of simmers, not just the elitist few with their entrenched ideas about `realism`.
The only true simmer is someone who takes their computer into the cockpit of the plane they're flying...
All the rest of us are faux.
Personally, I like being faux. It means I can fly aircraft I'm not licensed for; I can crash aircraft if I want to; I can land on rivers outside of the country I live in with floatplane aircraft I have never seen; I can use or ignore ATC as I see fit...
I wish you well altering the pink line for the benefit of us elitist few, but I do have one question that might bring you back down to reality from the simming euphoria you seem to be suffering from...
What Scenery SDK..?

Go to www.fsnordic.net
There you can download Stockholm Arlanda(ESSA), with every taxiway and sign! I´m sure the developers can help you out in how they did it.
Best regards
Per
I wonder who the hell came up with pink though!!!
Sure it stands out but I think a "little" too much, maybe something more subtle like strobes on the taxiway center line.

tucson coyote here
That is what I have been Saying about the Progressive Taxi way back about 2 months ago when I asked a Simple question to Alter the Color of that Pink Line..(To Something Like Yellow or White!)
but I got No Responses on the item or very sarcastic Remarks..
Now it hits some folks in the butt and they are complaining..(if someone would have been nice (one of the Beta Testers of FS2002 could have suggested something..
but it came out that No one knew..

I used Abacus Scenery Designer, put out by Abacus Publications. They have a feature for adding signs, but I prefer to create my own macro. I tried my hand with Visual Object Designer to create the sign macros and used Paintshop Pro to create the textures. These macros can be inserted with the ASD program mentioned above.
The problem with most addons that have signs is that they don't always follow FAR/AIM standards, (ex. Black on Yellow or Yellow on Black are often reversed)

I just wanted to thank all of you for the input. The software titles and URL's that you all recommended were very helpful.
I'm a retired real world pilot, and I would much rather have the taxiway pink stripe to follow than the signs in FUIII which I own.
