Here is a recommendation for you...go to that A***m.c*m place and download the file "akdk1.zip" ...it is free and rather wonderful and will provide some VERY good background for screenshots :-roll

I don´t know what you mean with the A***m.c*m place and I can´t find the file akdk1.zip!? Can you please explain this again?

My holiday was wonderful and I´ll post some photos of floatplanes and scuba-diving in the Maldives soon!

I have absolutely no idea why we are not allowed to mention this site here...perhaps someone will explain it to me. But you will find the file I mentioned in the File Library there...the first two letters of the site are "Av" and the last three are "sim" and of course it finishes with ".com" and quite naturally is preceded by "www."

WHY do we have to go through this charade...will someone please explain.

Two quick things… Question and a little comment, for whatever may be it’s worth.

I’m afraid I’m a bit confused.
When you say “background for SS’s,” it doesn’t seem you mean scenery (or I think you’d have just said – “scenery.” ;-) )

I could of course, just go there myself and look, but I try to avoid that site myself as much as able – not that I really have anything against it per se – but, I tend to enjoy “patronizing” FlightSim.com as much as able, this Site’s been good to me and I’ve gotten an awful lot from it.

Just really piqued my curiosity though… What sort of “background” is that file? :-)

As for the other, your general inquiry, which may even have been asked rhetorically, I’m not sure.
Obviously, I don’t know the real answer but – having Co-run and operated a very large Web-Complex (complex of Sites) for many years, as well as having served as Chief Editor of one of the larger and more popular “Game Sites” (won’t mention which one – it wasn’t in any way related to FS’s) – I do know that… unfortunately, when you have a situation where there is some “Site”-to-“Site” competitiveness, all sorts of weird and crazy things can and often-enough do happen.
It’s not nearly as uncommon as many may think or like to believe that, along the way, certain personal or philosophical differences emerge which somehow manage to become absorbed into the routine Ops. of one or another Site itself.
Sometimes, it just seems plain childish – but, behind every decision like those, there are real and actual people trying to do their best and offer their user base as much and the best of what they have.

So far as I’ve been able to determine here – I’ve never seen any written injunction prohibiting mention of avsim.com – and, obviously, as I can type that out here, it’s not being technically prevented.
What we do note, and have now noted for weeks is the inability to “Link-to” avsim.com – which leads me to the suspicion it may be mostly about FlightSim (for whatever their reason) not wishing to serve or further-facilitate the financial interests of that ‘other’ Site.
If the competition is stiff enough, this can actually be a prudent decision to make – however much it may baffle or seem “silly” or inconvenient to the users.
The costs of running and operating a Site such as FlightSim.com 24/7 365 days a year is phenomenal… Particularly if hosting a Forum such as this one – specifically – where the Bandwidth demand is through the roof!
Not cheap, not always easy, and the whole operation can easily become a seemingly endless perpetuity of interconnected migraines…
It doesn’t take much to trip some little “switch” or reach that point with competitors where you just realize – look, if they keep doing this or that, we’ll be able to sustain our Site for maybe another X number of months, etc…
Sometimes, one just has to make those decisions come what may.
It could just be petty childish crap, too – who knows?
..& who cares, really?
FlightSim.com offers it’s user base so much for free or for the $30.00 Membership, I have no complaints if they decide – “Hey, we can just prohibit any of our users from linking to that other Site while they're visiting us.”
..Don’t have to “like it,” but we might feel some sense of indebtedness maybe – and just go with the flow… ;-)

Anyway – these thoughts are based only on my own experiences and what I’ve come to see over the years of Web Hosting myself, and, as regards FlightSim.com’s decision itself – there is nothing said here which isn’t pure conjecture.

However “silly,” obtuse or inconvenient it may seem to “us,” maybe it’s best to just think of it in terms of not Linking to avsim. If it were an issue reaching as far as not even mentioning that other Site, FlightSim certainly has the ability to censor the name itself and we won’t even be able to type it in a sentence anymore: - or, they might just post a written request or injunction asking that we please refrain from mentioning that Site here (which would likely not be very prudent – but is always their prerogative).

..Hope some of this may help a little somehow… :-)
