LAST EDITED ON Jan-01-02 AT 04:57PM (EDT)[p]Hi again,

First of all, to keep up the nice tradition from my post "WW2 Pacific Theatre Charter - Pt 2", Part 3 of that journey was posted under precisely the same subject, i.e., "WW2 Pacific Theatre Charter - Pt 2". Even though I think that was a very nice subject, and I was quite satisfied with it, I have decided to post Part 4 of my journey under the revised subject you see above. I have yet to make up my mind about what to call the fifth post, but I am thinking of calling it Pt1, since that part was posted under a completely different subject anyway... I'm sorry if my inability to number the posts in an even remotely logical manner has confused any of you... :-shy

The fourth leg of our scenic Charter flight took us along the stretch of the Salomon Islands, from Rabaul across Bougainville, Vella Lavella, and several smaller islands, to Henderson Field on Guadalcanal. Really pretty flight, with lots of interesting sights, from imposing mountains to friendly beaches and coral reefs... And, of course, plenty of historic places for my passengers to enjoy. I could here the "Can you still recall when the bow doors swung open on that beach" and "Over there, that's the very hill we took on that rainy night when..."-stories all the way to the flight deck... And I enjoyed hearing them too!

Tricky to take SS's of though... How do you tell "mother nature" ;-) that it is supposed to look its best when cramped into a tiny screen shot from a particular angle?! Anyway, here are a couple of shots, which you may or may not like...

The first shot shows the departure from Rabaul, the next one shows Bougainville, and the last two are from the approach into Henderson. I wish I could remember where the third shot was taken, but I think that might be Vella Lavella in the background... Enjoy!

New Ireland is just out of view to the right of this shot

I was buzzing along at 12500 ft to enjoy the sights, so this mountain must have been pretty high...

High and fast on approach, as usual... :-shy I like the water in this light, the swell looks rather nice

Turning base for landing, after a most enjoyable trip! :-)

Dearest Björn…

My, my, my …

Just phenomenal shots my friend… What else can be said, indeed?
I don’t mean to be sounding like a parrot – I know you’ve said similarly to me, but – dang..!

These are phenomenal…

G3 my tush! We should just start referring to this card as “the miracle-worker.”

Just check out the exquisitely fine detail on the slopes of the mountain in the 2nd shot…
As if all the clarity and detail everywhere else weren’t sufficient – the G3 brings home the fullest depth and nuances in shade, shadow, coloration and shifting tones like nothing I’ve ever seen before. It’s simply amazing.
A lot to be said for “Per-Pixel Shading,” isn’t there?
And your shots say it well…

Just gorgeous colors and light-play in the 3rd & 4th shots…
Really well done…
These – and those under the title * “WW2 Pacific Theatre Charter - Pt 2” – have to be among your very best yet (IMHO) – and that’s saying a mouthful…

I am truly and sincerely impressed…

Oh, and :-lol ..love the reminisce of your passengers’ reminiscences!
Super touch to flesh-out these gorgeous shots with that extra element… Just love it… :-)

Please do keep them coming…
..Anxious to see where next! :-)

All the best, as ever –

Tia

Thanks Tia, all too kind as usual... ;-)

I'm just reall glad whenever someone likes them... I'm having way too much fun flying and taking these shots, so I'd probably keep posting even if they tried to drag me out of here... :-lol

And you are so right... the G3 is really marvellous... It almost brings out the details too good...

Thanks again, and see you! :-)

All the best,
/Björn
