Aircraft damage

I have yet to see any physical damage to my aircraft (except smoke) even after I get a text message stating I've been damaged and I can hear wind whistling into the cockpit. Am I doing something wrong? Have I missed something in the video options?

My system: P4 3.06
1 gig memory
Radeon 9700 Pro

You may need to be hit quite a few times. This picture is after being wiped out by FW-190s...

The damage on the tail is rather evident..
