Hello all,
Just got CFS3 came home and excitedly put the CD into the drive. Selected full install and it detected that I only had DirectX8.1 so it installed 8.2.

The problem is this, whenever the game loads it completely hangs the system, normally this occurs just as it initialises sound before showing the hanger/pilots/aircraft video type screen.

My computer spec is this:
Athalon 1.1Ghz
ATI Rage Pro
Soundblaster 64 PCI
328Mb memory
Win2000
Sidewinder Pro 2
Speed Touch USB Modem

I've installed all updates to win2k, updated all drivers etc. There isn't an updated driver for the soundcard so I'm using the Microsoft one that is installed with win2k.

The game does run if I set safe settings! But FS2k2 doesn't have any problems, nor does any other game.

Any ideas.....Please!!!

I'm tearing my hair out at the moment and desperately want to shoot some jerries.

Regards,
Tim

I think if you go to the CFS3 insider web site they have some hints and tweaks to run the game better. I had some initial problems with the game as well. I added 256 more megs of 2100DDR for a total of 512 and increased the virtual memory as recommended by the Insider and it helped a lot. Good luck and good hunting.

thanks for the tips.

I should have said. I've run dxdiag and everything checks out fine.

I've managed to get the game running now for about 5 mins before it hangs. The settings that the config program checks out on are everything on 2 except clouds which are 1. I've disabled the movie files and tried switching the dual pass render off and the z-buffer on. I've switched off all virus detectors and firewalls.

I'm certain it's a graphic card problem because playing with different drivers has got me this far, is there any other possible solutions that anyone has? Thinking back I know I had a similar problem with FS2k2 but getting it to run in windowed mode cured it.

Please help cause the game looks like it would run fine if it didn't keep hanging.

I think I may have solved it.

Anyone having problems should go to this site and follow the
tweaks and tips section.

This seems to have solved it. I'll keep you informed.

Tim,
Thanks for the site, I'll read thru it later, but wanted to mention that setting your resolution in CFS to the same as you have your desktop seems to solves some mysterious crashes. After doing that my system seems to be stable so far. I'm also using the nocd exe for it, which I found thur a Google search.
