Howdy all. Well my 2c worth as a new CFS3 owner isn't too crash hot actually.

Having been an avid CFS and CFS2 player, every review pointed towards CFS3 as being even better.

But from a flying point of view, my opinion is that MS have taken a turn backwards towards arcade style play.

The redeeming features of CFS3 ? CLOUDS!!!! They have depth, fantastic to fly through, and when looking out the window, make hunting for the bad guys a lot harder.

But realism ? Well CFS2 modelling and textures leaves CFS3 in its dust I think. CFS3 aircraft have a peculiar dimension/relationship size, unlike CFS2. The choice of cockpit viewing is interesting, you have to pan down to view your instruments - don't get fixated with reading your instruments at low level and plow into that building !

While CFS3 a/c don't stall at the blink of the eye - just gotta love the creaking and groaning an a/c does when banking hard ! - interesting effects like depth perception I think have taken a step back. And the force feedback ? From other reviews I've read, plus my own experience, it almost seems the f/f is back to front.

Tracer fire now is just big globs/balls of light fleeing your a/c. A text message shows when you're hitting someone, but deflection shooting now is 100% harder than before, esp when debris isn't flying off the other a/c (is this a particular setting that I"m running ??).

Overall, while it looks nice, and plays ok, I don't feel it's a step up from CFS2, just a remake towards the arcade shoot 'em up style, which is a real shame.

The install went smoothly, however the game kept crashing at 1024 x 768, but running at 800x600 works ok.

My site on screenshots taken under CFS2 shows how realistic some of CFS2 can look. I'll work hard at making CFS3 shots look just as good, and not so 'arcade' like...

:-(

My sys specs:
XP1700
Ti4200 w/128mb
512mb ram
FF2 joystick

So, there it is, my personal opinion. !
