View Full Version : Throttle is wacky

This is looking serious: I am now getting an "unintended" acceleration of throttle on my MS Sidewinder ForceFeedback 2 joystick, without touching the throttle paddle. Happens on and off, but regularly, in all aircraft.
Recalibrating the joystick has not helped.
And, here's the scarry part: it's now happening in Flight Sim 2002 as well as Combat FS III.
Anyone, HELP?

Samphl,
My MS sidewinder FF2 has not been working right since I installed CFS3 either. It wont calibrate. It makes the control surfaces on the airplanes go crazy along with the throttle. Its happening in CFS3 and FS2002. It never did it before I installed CFS3. I dont see how CFS3 would have affected it but maby it did. I dunno man?

Samphl,
I just hooked up my sidewinder to another computer thats doesnt have CFS3 installed and guess what. It works fine. I hooked it back up to my comp with CFS3 and it doesnt work. I dont know how or why but I guess Microsoft CFS3 doesnt like Microsoft Sidewinder Forcefeedback 2.

Yeah, agree. Last evening, I made a new Force Feedback profile in the Calibration Routine (outside both games) and saved it. Then, in both FS2002 and CFS3, I set that new profile to active in the "in game" calibrations.
So far, that seems to have solved the throttle issue.
As for wackiness of forces, I have some of the same, although not quite as bad as you.
There does seem to be a real glitch with Force Feedback and CFS3. I have an "on line" tech support session going with MS, and if I learn anything I'll post it again.

SAM,
Mine wont calibrate outside the game either. On my comp I goto "my comp, control panel, gaming options, and then select the sidewinder and hit properties" There you get a visual display of what the stick is doing. It looks like mine is going crazy every which way when its just sitting there. I can calibrate it over and over and no difference. But on the other computer without CFS3 it works fine.
Let me know if you find out anything. So far I am dissapointed with CFS3....very dissapointed. $50 for a game with major issues.

Here's the "official word" from MS (at least from on-line tech supp): you are to be sure that there are "NO PROFILES" set in the FF2 calibration routine.
I have tried that; throttle remains OK; some of the elevator excesses seem better. But the FF2 does not operate as reliably as in MS FS2002.
Will advise you if I learn more.

I have a Logitech Wingman FF and CH Pro Pedals (all USB) and have had the same problems with FF and the throttle. The problem with the throttle is that CFS3 is mapping both the pedals and the Wingman to the roll/pitch/throttle functions and whenever you touch the rudder pedal, the throttle moves. I can fly successfully as long as I keep my feet away from the rudder pedals and turn off FF, but not having the yaw is a major strafing and landing problem. I think the sim has the potential to be great fun, but I'll only hang onto it for a little while longer if MS doesn't at least aknowledge they are working on a fix.
