I'm in BOLIVIA,at La Paz.The airport there is El Alto Intel. Its 13,317Ft. MSL.I believe the regs say, can't operate a civil aircraft, I need oxygen at 12,500Ft.MSL., Flying a Non-pressured aircraft,SEL, US registry,"If" I get off the ground ,What do you do?At what point do you wear oxygen? On takeoff run?,or at lift off?
Happy thats not my home airport. You may need oxygen there just for walking around.;-)However the scenery there is great. VIN

I don't know what Bolivia's regs say, and you'd be under their regs there, but the U.S. says use oxygen when above 12,500 for more than 30 minutes or above 14 period.
However, you're near (or above) the service ceiling on many light aircraft, and you'd want to (in real life) do very, very careful calculations about takeoff even before having landed there (except in emergency, of course), then redo the calcs before takeoff, identifying a point on the runway where you'd need to abort if not airborne by then. Of course you'd need to take terrain into consideration, also, as to whether you could clear the surrounding terrain to leave the area.
All in all, that would be a touchy place to fly most light aircraft, even worse than Leadville, CO. Granted that people do fly C-172, etc., out of Leadville but, at 10K, it has to be a carefully thought out operation. La Paz, at 13K+, would definitely be worse, and if the temperature there is comfortable even with a light jacket (standard temp there would be around 13ºF), your density altitude will be above the service ceiling of all but turbocharged aircraft (and maybe a couple of others).
Were it me, in real life, and I'd satisfied myself I could successfully takeoff with a bit of margin for error, I'd put on the mask before taxiing out for takeoff.

Yes of course I agree with you. Were we really standing there,we would probly opt for alternate transportation.Altho they have the worlds most dangerous Lama path as a road for all traffic. However with a few "Coca" leaves to chew on, for reinforced judgment ,well who knows?.I would like to find out what the local pilots do there. I gotta believe ,that some ware there,a Cub,A supercub, maby, piloted buy the greatest unknown pilot in the world, who is now, doing the mail job,and delivering the babies. What a place.!!Only on the Sim!!
Thanx Larry VIN

VIN: You need to get back on your MEDS. Old Farts like you and me should be doing CRUISES out of Miami, not flying around in some third world country above 12,000 feet in a Super Cub. Cheers: SPOFF
Oh Wait: Did you say SIM?? :P
