Just read a letter in the Flight International. Mr. Man from Woking suggests putting 4 R-R Pegasus on the BAe-146 to give a STOVL/VTOL tactical airlifer. Apparently BAe made an airlifter BAe-146 in 1989, but it was conventionally powered.

Imagine a VTOL-146 doing the Harrier's bowing manouever at Farnborough! Fire up gMax and FSDS2!

The airlifter BAe146M would have had a modified rear fuselage to accomodate a ramp; the sponsons would have been large to accomodate four single-wheel main gears. Otherwise, I believe the engines would have had thrust reversers.

The project never got off the drawing board.
