View Full Version : An aircraft I'd really like to see made for FS2004.

Hi, i'm relatively new on these forums. Anyway, there's an aircraft I'd really like to see made for FS. I'd do it myself, but i've just started learning GMAX, and i'm having trouble with it, mostly because of having to un-learn a lot of Maya.

Anyway, the aircraft is Hikaru's Fan Racer from Chojiku Yosai Macross (AKA Robotech: the Macross saga in the US). It's a light, fast, and manuverable one-seat aerobatic aircraft powered by a ducted fan.

Following is a link to a good source of info about this aircraft, including s set of pretty good detail pictures: http://alanmccain.topcities.com/unspacy/aircraft/civilian_aircraft/fan_jet_hi.htm

Anyway, i'm not exactluy requesting this, I jus twant to suggest it as a cool, unorthodox project for someone to try.

I think I would like to make that plane.

Hey also, since you appear to like animation maybe (?) I am trying to make a model of the Swordfish II from Cowboy Bebop.

But yea anyways, I am still learning FSDS, but I will see what I can do this week.

BTW, the site is great, especially since it has all those views, this shouldn't take so long!

Suggestion - do it in Maya - export to gmax as a 3DS or dxf, and finish the animations and texturing in gmax.

or, from Maya, can you covert it to a direct X file and use makemdl directly on it?

One thing, though, don't overpolycomplicate it.

I'm sorry, I don't have Maya. I suppose I could download it but that wouldn't really be right.

Then again if someone else wants to do it go ahead. I was just saying I would give it a shot.

Whoa I was just looking around at that site and there are some pretty cool planes on there! Thanks for the link, if not useful, the site is at least a good piece of entertainment.

Unfortunately, I can't for a number of reasons.

First, I only have the maya learning edition.
And second, i'm not good enough at it to do this, anyway.

On another subject mentioned in this thread, the idea of a Swordfish is pretty cool! I'm a long-time Cowboy Bebop fan, from back when it was new in Japan! I already play CB music when I play FS, it'll be cool to fly the 'fish.

Oh, that is sweet!

Now if I could just find someone to build a Delta Flyer for FS9...

Great idea. I'd love to fly one of those!

Not only that, but is there anyone who could please make a U.S.S Voyager from Star trek voyager?? I can't build aircraft, so I am really hoping that there's a trekky out there who can do one for me for free download.

I've got flight sim 98,2000, 2002 and 2004 as my dad's got a keen interest in them.

I'm still working on a Type 9 shuttlecraft. For some reason, about half of the polys come up transparent/missing...

Check this thread:
http://www.flightsim.com/dcforum/DCForumID20/166.html
It deals with 3D Studio Max, but applies to GMax as well. ;)

BGen_SirJohn

I'm not using GMax or 3DS Max. I'm using Lightwave.

Check http://www.flightsim.com/dcforum/DCForumID20/183.html for details.

Yeah, that is a bit worse for wear. Lemmie try reducing the polys again. It'll be a long, tedious process, but likely worth it.

I've found that most aircraft for FS2002 will work just fine in FS2004, so it shouldn't be a problem.

air file and panel may need a bit of tweaking, but I'm sure someone here will volunteer to do that. (I'd volunteer myself, but I don't know how to tweak those...)

Excellent !
Hope this one works too, be nice if it does.

No prob with the panel, this ain't got one. Short explanation is tried me best with FS Panel Studio, never came up with anything decent, i prefer flying on the mini-panel or no panel at all (it can be done) But that's just my personal preferences :)

Well all the scribbling is done so i'm gonna go and do me unzip testing and upload this bad motor scooter :)

For the record, here's the info on the beastie i collected during flight testing. It's based on a turboprop engine and due to thinking in futuristic materials terms, rather lightwieght and has more than a bit of power to it :

Dimensions:
Length: 25.58 Ft
Wingspan: 25.48 Ft
Height: 12.80 Ft
Weight: 1067 Lb fully Fueled

Engine: Lightrage TNB Turboprop

Max Speed Sea Level: 308 Kts
Stall Speed Clean: 54 Kts
Stall Speed Flaps And Gear Down: 42 Kts

Fuel load: x2 main tanks 50 Gallons each
x2 aux tanks 30 gallons each
total 160 gallons

Fast Crusing Speed at 50% Throttle: 250 Kts

Optimum Cruise Altitude: 5000 Ft
Optimum Rate Of Climb: 2000 F.P.M.
Optimum Crusing Speed: 225 Kts

Roll Rate: 360 Deg. approx 3.5 Seconds

WARNING : DO NOT EXCEED 340 KTS IN A DIVE OR DURING AEROBATICS.

Range:
75% throttle 275 Kts IAS and 5000 ft Alt : 650 NM
50% throttle 250 Kts IAS and 5000 ft Alt : 681 NM
25% throttle 200 Kts IAS and 5000 ft Alt : 1200 NM

All above range specs done with maximum prop rpm

'nuff said.

Be well and safe flying gang !

I do believe this is one of the coolest things I have ever seen. Wraith One you deserve a medal for taking this on and getting it done so quickly! Textures look nice too!

And the pilot is very well endowed if I may say so ;-)

Good job, let us know when it's ready I will be in line to DL it right away!

Right behind me. :)

Think you could take a crack at the Delta Flyer? I can't seem to get my models to convert to anything that can be converted to .mdl :(

Hiya Speedy,
Done, dusted and up on the list for FS2002 aircraft.

One thing though, not saying nobody reads the docs, but may well be a good idea to read the flying info as this puppy has a few things about it that may well catch you out and could well result in a nasty smear mark down the tarmac/contryside :)
They did me at first i can tell ya !

The pilot is cute ain't she ;)

Anyways, hope ya like it :)

Happy flying

The Delta flyer eh ? well if you insist and i can see that you do :) i'll take a look at the in's and out's and let ya know what the score is concerning the DF

*sound of knuckles being cracked*
Now where did i put me Trek pic ref files......

Go easy folks,

I appreciate it.

If you can use Lightwave files to base it on, I can provide those.

I've been having a real problem just converting a Type 9 shuttlecraft...

Now if you'll excuse me, i'm just off to write out 100 times...
"don't forget to post the filename"

One day i'm gonna get organised, ain't gonna be today it seems :)

Hey not that I have anything against this site (cuz I love it) but I keep getting all nodes busy message. COuld you upload it to say avsim.com or something?

WraithOne

Speedy,
I'll take a look at it and see what can be done to get it on avsim, no gurantees, but i'll give it a go, let ya know here if that works out, ok mate !

All the best

Ok Speedy,
Done and uploaded to avsim for you mate, dunno how long it takes for things to appear on thier library lists but it's a done deal anyways.
Here's hoping it all goes according to no particular plan whatsoever :)

File name is the same as on this site:
fjh.zip

Also under the title name of Okedokae Fan Jet Hi Sport Aircraft

All the best,

Well of course right after that I got ino flightsim.com!!!

Oh well I appreciate it anyway! I will try this bad boy out as soon as I get home from school. You already have 210 downloads by the way.

Good job.

The aircraft looks awesome, the flight model is a bit tricky, but all in all a good job. I of course will try a version myself. In keeping with the source, it will resemble the "Rick Hunter" Mockingbird version. Look for that in the future. Helluva job though Wraith, the chick is dead sexy btw.

Glad you like the Fanjet K, Aye the flight model can be a handful but then i decided to leave it that way so it makes it something that's a real 'hands on' kinda aircraft.
Good luck on doing your version, drop me a line when your done, i'll be looking forward to seeing it, i do love the unusual designs.

Yep, Rebecca is a good looking gal :)

All the best,

a bit worse for the wear - it appears that going through the ACME discombobulator/recombobulator is a bit, well, rough on the type 9...

Opened lwo in TrueSpace 4.3, saved as dxf, imported into gWax (took a few minutes to import the 11 Meg dxf.), saved as gmax (831K)

It also saves as a 4.3Meg x file ... haven't tried producing it into FS yet.

Greetings and salutaions folks
Well, i'm givin' it a shot in FS 2002
Can't do anything about 2004 though, don't have it and not really got any intention to get it. The FS 2002 serves my needs to the level which makes me a happy little flyer so i'm willing to settle for that personally :)

Anyways, assuming i got this right, here's a shot of the thingy so far, all perpetrated in FSDS V2 and fast becoming a bit little of a tour de force (farce?) in gaudy paint schemes.

All comments, critique, etc welcome of course.

One thing that maybe of note, this beastie is, to my mind anyway, high on detail so consequently polygon count ain't exactly small, how things will work out when flight testing begins is another matter ;)

Enough waffle i think
All the very best gang

Greetings all !
Well it's a done deal apart from the documentaion, which i will be scribbling out and uploading the full package in a day or two.

She's a bit of a wild ride and certainly fun to haul about the skies.

Sorry you FS2004 flyers, but this beastie as i mentioned in a previous post, is FS2002 only as far as i know since i don't have and will most likely not get ACOF.
Done purely in FSDS V2 and a bit loaded with animations, most notably the gear and pilot.

Also it's rather a detailed visual model so a fairly quick machine is gonna be needed.
Just as a side note, if anyone want's to take a pop at re-working this for a freeware ACOF aircraft then by all means do so, within the bounds of freeware and the usual copyright hoo-ha of course.

If needs be and enough interest is shown, i will consider uploading the .fsc file for development use.

Well, enough waffle from me i think, fly safely folks.
W.O.

Oh just a few piccies here for you all, enjoy !
