Windows Media problem

I've been having a problem with watching videos on any browser for the past few months. Whenever I try viewing a wma video in a browser, the browser automatically closes all the windows. I've updated to windows media player 10 and I'm still experiencing this problem. I'm also running kerio personal firewall and avast anti-virus.

When my Niece goes to watch a video trailer her system crashes to the Desktop if I understand her Right,she has Media 10.Her dad uninstalled & reinstalled,a no go.I may go over there today and try somethings,I may install Media 9,I'm still using,I still like it tried it,didn't care for it.MS said if you want to uninstall the media,go to Add/Remove,not there on My PC,or her's,so she says.MS said you cannot totally remove the Media,her dad just went to the Media folder,and deleted,and then reinstalled,same thing happens.She is using Nvidia upto date Driver,in Managment devices everything looks ok there.She tried System Restore,no go there.Last week I did notice on here PC that I did not like,When her PC starts,or reboots,when the Bios flashes some of the Words,and #'s are showing half (sliced) or missing,then when the SONY appears on the screen before the Welcome XP there is a Blank Space between each letter,in the center of the letters,then the XP welcome comes on it looks fine.Desktop looks ok,It's the only time she crashes,on the web to view a Video trailer.Plays Cd'S ok,I will put a DVD in and try that. Her, Games SWKOTOR I,II,crash some times.I'll try another game or Put in Tiger Woods Golf,She does have any other newer Games that are new and stable.Eveything was OK on the Test DXdiag.Got too go now,I hope we Resolve or problem,I don't like the Bios problem the way it looks,I wish she had told me 3weeks ago,then would of did a System Recovery at that time?too late.the last Resource would be a total reinstall of Windows,but not yet.Ron

That's exactly what's happening, the browser crashes to desktop. I was looking for an alternative to windows media but it is impossible to find. I can't even see the videos at www.flightlevel350.com :(

Well try to make this short.Went to Niece's house,she 16yrs.old,Dad old PC,he has a bunch of stuff left on there he said should come off,said he should Reformatt,start over,I agreed, looking at it.He's got 2 Epson printers in progams,Don't have them any more Niece as a Canon now.What a mess.She gets popup spyware on the Desktop,Dad runs add-aware spybot,or something like that once in awhile.I put a DVD in and another player came up Forgot the name of it,when you surf the Web and play a Trailer,it uses the one she had,I removed it.Went to Gamespot ran a video stream,that was OK.She tried her site,it was ok for now,this may not be short,She put SWOR I,it Ran,She tried II,it was,ok,tried a few things started Freezing in SWII.Locked up big time,mouse would not move,no Task would not come up to End Program,like she said as always.Id saved in Sys.Restore before I ran her Games.Rebooted,sent error to MS said Graphic Driver Error?Tried putting a Different one in,done this many times on mine with no problems,Her's,what a Nightmare.Looked in the Bios,When it would show like something Disabled,the D was missing or the D was a $ sign,when you dropped down on it then the D would reappear.After trying another Driver,a no go,worse,we undo what I did,well now No video streaming,and back to crashing only on the Browser for Trailers video,My Niece felt so bad for me,she said Don't worry she won't die if she can't watch trailers,I know I would.I had her put in Her Sims Unlseshed,called something like that,it looked great she said.I wanted to put my old 2002 Tiger Woods,she said No,I said I QUIT!It was alright with her.Don't Like the Bios the way it looks,even on start up.Her Dad said he will have to Start over again,when? who Knows?I tried removing Media 10,can't not in Add/Remove.Put in Media 9,would not let me do it,so I over wrote Media 10,with 10,worse,rolled back,back again the way it was when it started to work for me,no go.I could go on,and on,already did.Got to go now,If I was a Drinking person,I would go for it,but would not solve the Downer for me.Take care Hope you get it going,yes You probably could get another player,I remember one day I upgraded free,I think it was QuickTime for Windows,in it loaded up I clicked on Default,and all my Files that used the Media,changed to QuickTime,and I think I rolled back,I like Media Player.RealOne player can be set up for default,did not do it.Ron

Your not going to believe this,I was coming home from work,said to myself,sure would be great if my Niece called me up and said Everything is working.Yes she just called me up and said,everything is working,Bios looks good,no more spaces in the center of SONY'S letters,Media Player A OK on the browser .All working for now.I told her don't do anything diff.For me from the day one since I put in SP2 been getting Error reports in the Event Viewer.Turned on my PC today,and not one Error in the Application nor in the Systems.What GREAT DAY Today!Niece thanked me anyway if I had anything to do with it to get it going yesterday,She just turned on the PC today,and I was not there.Hope you get yours going.Ron

Got the problem solved on my Neice's PC.It was My good old PNY ti4200 128mb GPU,bummer,I think the card has a life time Warranty only if the Co.still makes them or has them in stock? I put in my test GPU for just in case,5200 128mb,used the 61.82 from Guru3d.com pretty stable Drivers.Played her STAR WARS II for 3hrs.Normally she could only play it for about 1hr. then 20min. then not at all.She will be A HAPPY CAMPER when I bring it to her house.Bios looks normal now and SONY no space in the center of each letter of SONY.Ron

I looked at my box that my Ti4200 came in thought it was a PNY.It's Asylum,BFG.Tom's Hardware said it's the only Co. that offers a LIFE TIME Warranty,24/7 called them up,the ony thing right now they want me to do is reinstall it,and if the problem is still there,give them a call and they will Replace it with the same or the next one UP.WOW!can't beat that deal.I may try it tonight,tired and lazy now,but got a LifeTime to do it.Then they Email you and tell you what they have,or would like if comes near the Ti4200 has DVI,there 5200 does not,there 5200 Ultra has DVI,and so on.Tried a 5200 Fan was to noisy,took it back,got a XFX 5700LE 256,sweet card,fan so quiet can't even hear it,had to take the side off to see if fan was turning.Ron
