PC4000 RAM

I'm looking into PC4000 and above RAM at the moment, and was wondering whether any other people out there use it. Does it offer a great improvement over lower spec RAM (e.g. PC3200) if you don't overclock? Is there a difference between using, say, 1 x 512MB stick or 2 x 256MB dual channal kit?
