Hey Everyone
My card is an ASUS V9520 Magic V44.69a.0/Nvidia Geforce FX5200 128meg.
The box says it is 8X agp capable, but in my graphics card settings it is stuck on 2! In my bios I set it to 4, it stays at 2 on my card settings. I set it to 8, it still stays at 2 in my card settings. I have all the latest card drivers as well (5303)
How DO i get it to go up?
From what I know, I am quite sure my system is 4x capable, so i would expect 4 at least.

Even if you graphics card is capable of 8X, it will only operate with the capability of your computer system, which you think may be 4X. I recommend several things. Review the material provided by the computer manufacturer. If you can find the MOBO's manufacturer's information, then review what BIOS settings you have and how to ensure they are set to the proper AGP settings. You might even benefit from a BIOS update.
Make sure you have updated drivers for your MOBO's controller chips, i.e., Intel, VIA SiS, AMD, ALi. Open device manager, system devices, and search for similiar entries:
Intel CPU to AGP Controller
VIA CPU to AGP Controller
etc.
Make sure you have all the Windows Updates installed, especially DirectX9.0b.
Once you have everything updated, press start, run..., type dxdiag, OK. Let directx diagnostic stabilize and review, test each of your peripherals.

I have tried dxdiagbefore, and it doesnt display anything telling you what your agp is set at. In my bios, it gives you teh ability to set it from 1x,2x,4x,8x. But it is stuck at 2. I went to the bios update site, and they think everybody is a computer expert, and liveson their computer - they expect you to do all these highyl advanced thing just to update your bios. My mobos chips are VIA Sys, I am sure of that.
*Thanks for the information also, I will look harder for an easier BIOS update

Who is the manufacturer and what is the model number of your mobo. The BIOS update is only tricky if your local power company decides to have a blackout in the middle of the update.

Ok, now we are getting somewhere! I looked at ASUS site for BIOS and other updates. The most recent BIOS update was 1007c dated 6/14/2001. When you boot your computer, look on the black screen near the bottom left to see if you can identify the version of BIOS have. Otherwise, enter BIOS and it should indicate what version you have on one of the screens.
I also found a file that is a AGP 4X turn on Registry key for VIA 694x N.B. in Windows 95/98/ME/NT40/2000. I don't know if this file will work with WinXP, but it might since WinXP is NT based.
Here is the URL for the downloads for your MOBO - http://www.asus.com/support/download/item.aspx?ModelName=CUV4X-C&Type=All . For the BIOS, download 1007c.zip and aflash221.zip. For the 4x, download via_rk694x.zip.
The instructions provided are a little goofy, so if you decide to download, review them, and email me if you need assistance prior to doing anything.
Another issue with VIA MOBO controller chips, if you are using Win95/98/98SE, is using an earlier version of the 4-in-one drivers. See http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=300 .

Hi Captain,
I must thank you for the link to AIDA32. That is one neat little utility! And seeing that you have the same MOBO as I do, I have a question for you. I am running my vid card in the AGP slot. But what confuses me, is that when looking at AIDA32, it says the AGP slot is empty, or not used, and it shows all my GPU stuff for my ATI 9600 under PCI devices. Also I see in the bios, that a parameter under something for the video ( i am at work, sorry)lists it as PCI device as default, but can be changed to AGP. Im am pretty confused. Any ideas to straighten me up???? Thanks!!!!!! :7
