I think I need to add one of these now that I have gone back to FS9. Has anyone looked at both? What are the differences between them? Which one to add?

Thanks,

Jim Wight

Hi,

Add both!

UT is for roads, water, and misc. object fixes.

FSG is for mesh and landclass, if you purchase both products from them.

Happy Holidays,
Jim

I'm looking at a similar purchase as well. I know I want to get Active Sky but I can't decide what to get either GE Pro or the UT & FSG together. What's your opinion?

These questions are asked every so often....

My personal recommendations are:

Active Sky
Ultimate Terrain
FS Genesis Mesh
FS Genesis Landclass (can be 'sandwiched' with UT landclass)
GE Pro II

....and some like to add F1's Flight Enviroment

All these programs can work together, but FS9 looks the best when they are all, in fact, working together.

Hi Al,

Depends on you and the type of flights you make.

I think the FSG landclass is a no brainer for around $15.

For all ground textures and night textures GEP is a must have. FS has never looked so good, especially combined with AS for weather and the setting of the textures.

UT is good if you like most of the major/minor roads and water to be accurate.

FSG mesh is good for those flights in elevated areas.

The keys are that all of this will work together AND you do not need to purchase everything at once. None of these products are going away. Take one thing at a time, install correctly and enjoy. I will always be around for Active Sky questions.

I would put Ultimate Terrain as a first purchase. It provides replacement landclass, roads, railways, corrected rivers/coastlines, and wonderful night lighting.

There are many freeware ground texture files (FS2004 Texture Replacement by Marcel Aerni for one) and I seem to remember there being some high quality mesh uploaded for the entire USA (broken down into sections) too. Also get Airport Environmental Upgrade (aeu7.zip) to make your airports look much better. Koorbygen Lite provides more realistic replacement autogen buildings. And there are several water packages too, so that you can change the look of your water (opinions vary widely on what looks best though).

Found the link for the free terrain mesh for the USA and other areas of the world at http://www.fsproject.com/mesh_maps/World_Mesh_MAP.html
The USA is 38m mesh. There is also 19m mesh available for the west coast ( http://www.fsproject.com/mesh_maps/USA19_MAP.html ). Most of these were in the file library a year or so ago by Raimondo Taburet, but I could only find the 19m when I searched, so I went looking and found they moved to http://www.fsproject.com/

Hi Phantoms,
Since I am new to this "mesh" stuff, but want to try it out for the US, in that first link after I download all the million files that are there, what do I do with them? Are there read me files included?
Any helpful hints appreciated!
Thanks,

Simply place the xxx.bgl files in your scenery/world/scenery folder.

BTW, for the US there is actually 3 different pages depending on where you click in the map (West, Central and East).
