Up front I confess I am way over my head but I am trying to enjoy my fs04 to the fullest and at the same time perhaps get lucky and self teach myself by reaching beyond my ability and knowledge,,

the problem I am having is when I try to program some rather simple fligjhts to use ils imput figures is that the figures never seem to match up. The radio stack will have an altitude programed in but that figure never seems to be the figure that is being shown on the planes panel, same thing goes with the figure I program in for ILS approach never seems to put the plane on the center of runway. Sometimes quite a distance from the center.Does anyone have any suggestions what I am doing wrong and any suggestions as to some FS web sites where I might pick up some tutorials that would help me in trying to learn some basics. Sorry to show such stupidy but we have to do the best with what we have.
all comments appreciated--even the ones that may tell me to play in the game that fits my talents

thanks

It might help to troubleshoot your problem if you gave us more details, such as what aircraft you are using (default 172, payware airliner, etc.), an example of the airport (name, runway, ILS freq, etc.) and "programming" information you are using and more details on what you see wrong.

For example, an altitude problem could be the difference between altitude above ground (AGL) and altitude above mean sea level (MSL), or it might be actual altitude MSL vs. a wrongly set altimeter.

Also, is this an FMS you are programming (if so, which one), or the default GPS or...

Thanks for reply. I used default 172 or 182 and was flying KINS INDIAN SPRINGS , NEVADA to KLSV @ 9000' and landing on Rw 21L with freq 109.10. Was using all default equipment. I need to locate some tutorials on using ILS flying. Do you know of any place I might locate some? I have looked with no luck.

Thanks

I've not yet had a chance to look up data for LSV, but a good place to start learning about IFR flying might be the lessons built in to FS for the "instrument rating."

Since you were landing on 21, your final aproach course should have been near 210º magnetic. Presumably you tuned your number 1 NAV (VOR) radio to 109.1, had the NAV/GPS switch in the NAV position, and tried to keep the localizer needle (left/right needle in the VOR gauge) centered, using small heading corrections when the needle was off center, flying "towards the needle," that is, if the needle is off to the left, you need to turn left a few degrees to get back on course. If you have the autopilot engaged, you need to have it in the APP (approach) mode within the last few miles.

That needle is 4 times as sensitive on the localizer as it is on a normal VOR, so full scale deflection is 2.5º off course (gets touchier as you get closer), rather than the 10º when using VOR. Oh yes, try flying it first with no wind set in -- it's a lot easier. And for your own reference you may wish to set the OBS to your final course, though for a localizer it's not needed, unlike for a VOR.

Hello eray9s,

You can take a look at my web page and maybe it will give you some pointers.
