View Full Version : Best Frame Rate Friendly AI Traffic Models?

I currently have F1 ultimate traffic. I would like to know what the best AI aircraft model is to maintain optimum frame rates. I've heard that AI Aardvark is one of the more efficient models out there. Does anyone have any opinions about what actually yields the most FPS per certain amount of traffic?

Since you get 3fps at a rural airport lets see , i would suggest the plane that wonderwoman aviated in , you know that invisible jet, should be not much of a frame hit.

Hi Ryan, I may not be much help, but anything is better than the 'help' you got from the last response.
You clearly sem to have some hardware problems, so first, I suggest you post details of your system in the hope that one of us can help you sort them out.
There are a number of AI packages around. I personally use the ARNZ ones but there are others by FSpainter, AIA and AIS.
Lets try to sort the hardware out before you consider these though or perhaps use some less ambitious slider settings.

I know you already own Ultimate Traffic and they do have nice looking models, but I have been a long time user of MyTraffic and don't know of anyone that has put as much research into lowering CPU/texture loads as their development team. I have been very happy with their product, their updates, and their support (Ultimate Traffic's support has also been outstanding), and I like all the GA/Military traffic that MyTraffic also provides.

Yeaaah, the reason I asked is because I ventured over to Flight Scenery's forums (you know they made PVD and making PDX airports) and one of the designers on there recommended using ai aardvark's planes. I then though I would post here to see if anyone has used any of their models (AIA's). I checked out AIA's site and they explain all about LOD etc etc and how FPS friendly their models are.
Also, yes, my system really is horrible. Actually, it wasn't a uber rural airport, it was KMSP Minneapolis with 100 AI traffic!! LOL (with a modified AFCAD and special gates with the new runway which added about 40 planes or so). I don't usually fly approaches with 3FPS, but I wanted to see what would happen and if I could do it. My hardware (actually my wonderful wife's PC) is a :
Win XP Pro SP2
Dell dimension 2400
P4 2.2 GHz 533 FSB
Intel 82845 chipset (video)
I added 1GB PC2700 RAM (total of 1GB now)
And for the real kicker...NO AGP ports :( (much less PCIe ports lol)
Normally what I do is when I fly in the country (a lot), I turn up the traffic so the smaller airports have enough GA to make things fun at the regionals have some airline traffic but not enough to own this poor system. When I fly near major class B airspace airports I turn down the traffic depending on what phase of the flight I'm in. 10 FPS is what I shoot for during a hand-flown approach. I can stand 5+ during an A/P coupled approach but I have to take lower the sliders when I go off A/P.
And what I'm trying to get at with this post is what files can be added to flightsim to make it the most FPS friendly? Even if I lose some detail or quality of a texture/effect...
I have been using clds_ref.zip, for my dxt3 clouds but someone recommended Hifpsv2.zip, which is FSW's clouds and said they gained a few FPS. So I will try those. I also turn off my Terrain Detail, but add some autogen for a tradeoff

AI Aardvark models are both better on performance and they look more realistic as well. I have Ultimate Traffic installed, but based on some recommendations I had heard over on another forum, I switched over the majority of my US airlines to AIA models and paints for the Boeings and FS Painter models for the Airbuses. So basically I have AIA and FSP planes assigned to the UT flight plans. The performance isn't a huge leap, but it is slightly better and as I mentioned, the AIA models are much more realistic looking than the Flight1/PAI models. The one downside is that it is a fairly involved process to swap out the AI assignments but not impossible if you like tinkering with Flightsim.
Based on the performance that you are getting now, I'm not sure if it would really be worth the time and effort to switch them. If you want to try it and need help figuring out how to swap the assignements, let me know.
