View Full Version : No longer able to amend default flight

Can anyone advise what might be the problem.
I save a flight situation and set it as 'Make Defualt Flight' but the next time that I come into FS9 the previous flight is still there as default. The only way that I seem to be able to save the flight as default is, after saving the situation, by manually changing the line in the FS9.cfg.
Also, on every start of the FS9 the system regenerates the Scenery / Index files, even though I havn't added any new sceneries. It seems that this setting is not saving either.
Any thougths as it's really annoying.

If I remember well, you have to do it twice ! Sincerly, this is a bug that the English version has since the begining and I hope this has been corrected in the 9.1. But unfortunately, it was not the case !!
The work around, if I rember well was :
1)Save your flight as defautl
2)Exit FS
3)Launch FS, select your saved flight inside 'Select a Flight' option
4)Save it one more time as a default
And it would normally run (not sure)! I don't have done it since a few monthes !!!

The short story is you can save any amount of 'flights' you want (like let's say, every stage of approach (5 mi out/3 mi out/1 mi out)). These are really SITUATIONS (or condition/status/stage) of flights, commonly called 'flights' for clarity.
BUT you can only 'make default' any flight that you PREVIOUSLY SAVED (as a 'Flight',even if it was saved just 10 seconds ago) BEFORE FS9 WILL REWRITE THE 'START UP SITUATION' in FS9 CFG. FS9 will NOT save a flight AND make default at the same time (dah!).
So you MUST select previouly saved flight, and THEN (YES NOW!) IS WHEN YOU CHECK 'MAKE DEFAULT'. Save flights all you want. Select flight, and click 'Make Default' only if it's previouly saved flight.

Many thanks for all your responses. I had no idea that this specific bug existed, hopefully MS will fix it, amoungst all the other minor ones, in the next release.
Thanks again,
Stuart

This is/ was absolutely NOT the case. (i.e. having to save a flight first and THEN going back and making it the default flight at a later time). I've always been able to tap that ole semi-colon, name/describe the flight and then tick the box that says "Make default" I've been around FS since God rode his bike to school :o)) I'm having the same problem, and it's almost spooky that others are starting to have it too. Bruce Artwick's ghost?? I tried:
1. Starting flightsim in safe mode.
2. Holding down the shift and ctrl key and starting FS
....and a few more things that I probably forgot that I did. Nuthin. (CRS syndrome. Happens when u turn 60 :0))

Jack,
You been around since FS1.9? :-) Me too. I guess the latest patch 'took care' of THAT feature! I only know I did it the way I described all along. Wasn't aware of the 'change'. (Hey, I am 65 myself, so maybe I too have the 'CRS' bug and just forgot to remember. What? What? Heehee).

Oh. PLEASE don't push that 'hold 'ctrl+shft' when starting FS' as any kind of a 'fix' for ANYTHING. All that does is re-set EVERYTHING to 'DEFAULT'! THAT'S ALL! You don't want to do that, I don't think. It is better to just go delete the FS9.cfg and have FS9 re-write that as a trouble shooting 'tool'. Much better. Fact is, that 'trick' was usually foisted on unsuspecting 'newbies' (as a cruel joke).
