freeeeeaaaaaky!

every year I upgrade my computer. I always have 2 hard drives, so the hard drive I have a Sim on, becomes a slave and the new drive (a part of upgrade) becomes a master. Then I Install Windows and FlightSim onto the new drive. Then, I copy the aircraft, gauges, sound and so on folders from the old FlightSim installation (now on the slave drive) into ne new FlightSim installed into the new hard drive. It's been working for years... Are you eith me so far? I'm sorry if I'm not perfectly clear, it is difficult to explain for me.

Now, another upgrade, another fresh FlightSim installation. It works fine the way it is out of the box, so it is nothing about the default MSFS COF problem. Then I (as usual) copied various aircraft from the slave drive into the new FS9 I just installed, along with entire gauges and sound floder. That's when the freeeeaaaakish drek started happening: some gauges would not load (some would), error messages, textures on some aircraft would not load, some model.cfg files would not load, some aircraft would not load at all... whattha blood... shkreck... ffff-frankeinstein?!!

less then a week ago (prior to upgrade) all these aircrft worked fine (HJG, Maltby, Kittyhawk, Posky...). I used my sim with no probs, all was usual. Now what the drakula is happening here? why is it socking the blood outta me?! I don't bother evil forces. Maybe it is the different drive system, I coppied from IDE to SATA... I don't know, you tell me. I love my crafts, it is a 60gig worth of files there, it would take me years to download it all off the web again.

....apcalypse, the evilest of all evel, the blood-hangry canibal, the human-flesh-swollower.... aaahhhhh....

Well, you don't say what aircraft are giving the problems but I can see at least one item you haven't considered (make that two)!

First, when installing some aircraft there are files which need to be in certain places; notably payware aircraft. They get placed in the install process and are "invisible" to the installer. After moving the files around they aren't where they are supposed to be and something doesn't work. Next, some aircraft use alias files to display and when the original a/c isn't there then the a/c with the alias file won't load because the pointed-to file isn't there.

Hope this gives a little food for thought. :D

thanks Paul, I knew the issue with payware, the aircraft I coppied from the old drive are various freeware models by HJG, Kittyhawk, POSky and David Maltby. Some of them worked, some not. Some could not be loaded because there was no model.cfg that "could not be found", yet it was there. Some had its textures appear as a black and freen mess. and finally, most gauges could not be loaded, including default ones that I copied along with the gauges folder. Yet when I overwrote these gauges with ones from the fresh installation that I backed up, they showed up well. It's scarry... what am I gonna do....
