Hi, one of the things I really enjoy about FS9 is flying online. My prefered method is through VATSIM. I've been a part of virtual airlines before ... some good, some not so good. I enjoy alot of realism.

One thing that is "real" that can't really be re-created in a VA is a busy airport. Some thoughts I've had is about a virtual airport ... with virtual FBO's and other facilities on it.

Take for an example an airport such as Midway in Chicago. It could host any number of airlines. It could also host flying clubs, an FBO where virtual GA pilot's could stop for gas ... or virtual lunch. Maybe even a flight school where people learn to fly the sim in 172's.

Corporate pilot's could be based out of the airport in charter operations. Virtual choppers ... air ambulances ... just people based there.

Given all this ... the amount of traffic would definately make ops at the airport realistic and fun. Not to mention, the more of us that fly from one place.. the more virtual controllers we'll see .. such as Tower, Ground, Clearance , etc.

Just some thoughts ... you guys feel free to add to it .. who knows, maybe it'll go somewhere.

This is an excellent idea. The big drawback to VATSIM, as it's used now, is the lack of GA traffic. This isn't anyone's fault, but for those of us who prefer light aircraft to heavy iron, it makes it somewhat less interesting.

The trick, perhaps, is to pick an airport that would be complex enough to warrant a controller, and located in a place where there's enough scenery (buildings or topography) to sustain the visual interest of VFR pilots. Close to one of the major hubs would be good, to generate some "background" traffic on the center or approach frequencies.

Boston ARTCC is talking about having a VFR night at Bedford -- that might be a place to start.

Count me in. I'm not really familiar with the Boston area, do you have an airport in mind ? I know there are sectional charts just about everywhere on the net for download so anyone interested should be able to navigate. Just since I posted this last night, I've given some thought to trying to start up a virtual airport, or maybe just an FBO. Somewhere at first where we just get the GA folks to fly out of. Maybe a website where they can log there hours ... single engine, multi-engine/ etc. just a regular log to give some feel of purpose.

Stay in touch on this.

I downloaded FSGenesis Roads. That really makes GA flying a good time. Only 9 bucks.
