Actually, the Concorde is the second fastest airliner. The Tu-144 holds the honour of fastest airliner ever.

and it does so by some 200 knots!!

The 747 SP should be a good candidate for the second fastest airliner. If iīm not mistaken i think it can reach speeds of Mach 0.90+

the VC10 is the second fastest airliner if you dont include the T144 as the fastest and the reason you shouldnt include the T144 as the fastest is because it was a failure and i was the same build instructons as the concorde because the french sold there plans to the russians

No i think youīr wrong here. See my facts say that the VC10 have a top speed of 935 Km/h and the 747SP have a top speed of 980 Km/h.

Ps. I do agree that the T144 shoulnīt be seen as the fastest since itīs not in use for some time now.

Yeah, we probably have two seperate categories: fastest ever and then fastest currently in use.

Let me point out something everyone's overlooked until now: the Convair CV-990 Coronado. Like the 747SP, it's hit Mach 0.97 and 0.98 in a test flight.

The other one which bears mention is the DC-8! A DC-8 was the world's first supersonic airliner.

Cheers!

I am been wanting to have this discovery wing channel for a long time. I have directv satellite and don't have this channel. My friend from different town(140 miles south from me) has this channel but he does not watch this at all. :(

I tried to talk to directv customer service but man, being on hold for 20-30mins, that's not my kind of customer service, if you know what I'm saying.

I'm keeping this directtv only because of TechTv. ;)

LAST EDITED ON Oct-12-01 AT 06:59PM (EDT)[p]Coronado is the correct name. It was named after the area in San Diego, if I recall this correctly, where the planes were built. Also, it at one time held the record for the fastest run from New York to Boston, averaging 414 mph. To put this into perspective, if a Electra was cruising at altitude over New York and later, Boston at the time the Convair left the gate, it would have been on the ground in Boston as the Electra flew over! The name was applied mainly, if not only, to the tail of Swissair's 990 fleet.
