Hi,

I want to use the DXTbmp tool to convert some non mipmap textures for my planes.

I know a little how to convert them to DXT3 but there are still a couple of questions i want to ask because when i converted them i see some purple glow on the roof of the planes fuse and when i zoom-in close its not so sharp as i want them to be!

are there some specific settings to convert???

can someone tell me what the best settings are to convert them into DXT3 with theDXTbmp tool???

Please advise me!!

Best rgrds Wes

I don't think I understand the question. Are you trying to just edit some non mipped textures, or are you trying to add mips?

I save all my planes' exterior textures as DXT3-with alpha, no mips. The no-mips option has to be selected in "preferences" each time you open DXTBmp.

Hi,

I'm trying to get the blurry textures away,so the told me to add mips?!?!?

but did you save all your planes for the same reason???

Or is the solution to add all exterior textures as DXT3-with alpha, no mips???

And where can i select the textures as DXT3-with alpha, no mips???

Please advise me

When I remove mips, the blurs disappear.
In my opinion mips are useless on flyable planes, since their function is to reduce size as you add distance. I don't know about others, but I'm always quite near the plane I'm flying, lol.
Your blurry acft may in fact already have mips, which could contribute to blurriness, as sometimes (a theory of mine) the 512 mip (or lower) is used instead of the 1024,sometimes fixed by zooming in then back out again.
Open DXTBmp,click "prefs" and uncheck "include mips".
Click file, load extended image, and load your texture.
At the very bottom of the screen should be the file's details, ie: 1024x1024 32bit 8 mips, or something.
Click save extended image.
Choose dxt3 with alpha.
Remember, you'll need to uncheck mips in "prefs" each time you start DXTBmp.

warning: it is all too easy to accidentally overwite a file by not paying attention to the name as you save it.

You may have an older version. Please go to Martin Wright's website and get the newest version. [http://www.mnwright.btinternet.co.uk/index.htm]

Hmmm...maybe I have an older version. It's .69,which I don't even see in the list. I see .60 and .71, and the newest, .74.
I think I have this version on disc if you want a copy I can email it,but I can't imagine why any version would not jave the mips options. Maybe your version provides different steps to that option.(?)
