Howdy All,
Here is the problem. ONLY during the SPRING season, I'm having problems with FS9 crashing (abruptly quits with no error messages XP-Pro) in certain parts of Alaska while running third party terrian. I have tried this with two different sets of terrian files from two different sources (vendors). If I change the season to another one (winter,fall,summer) no problems.

The problem happens if I start a fresh flight at ANC or fly near ANC, (and other parts of Alaska too). The problem is sparatic by area. I also have tried a fresh install of FS9 thinking a file was corrupted.

Any thoughts or suggestions????

Thanks
MK

Do a search for CTD crashes - they are well documented for Fall & Spring

Ok, This is a follow up to my original post/problem.
After some searching, I found the following link with a suggestion on changing some settings in the scenery.cfg file.
From the link:

This is not a mesh terrain problem - i had see this from another simmers - but the problem was theris fs9 - that for some reasons was crashing -

First you must make sure if you have any land class scenery installed on that area - is installed into the scenery/BASE/scenery folder -

You can also try this:

on your main FS2004 folder - look for the terrain.cfg file

make a backup of original terrain.cfg

open terrain.cfg file

replace all the following lines :

MaskClassMap=1
MaskClassMap=3

REPLACE WITH:

MaskClassMap=0

this will avoid ctd in order areas also - cause fs2004 suffers from a grapic engine bug - wich might occure mostly on the boreal emisphere - with more frequency on the european continent - especially in areas where we find partial snow covered areas - this does not exclude that the area of st helens might also suffer from ctd - if so the chages above will fix the problem.

So having tried this, I don't have the CTD problem any more. I haven't seen any other side effects yet from this fix, but I'm sure it does change something else in the scenery.

Good Luck

That was one of the solutions that I could not remember the source of - there were others at the time but it was 6 months ago

Glad to have helped
