Ok maybe someone can help me out here. I am trying to finish a flight from Sydney, Australia to Tokyo, Japan. There is this one point on my flight plan that the following things happen:
1. The Overspeed indicator comes on
2. The IAS shoots up to over 450 yet the MACH number doesn't change
3. The altimeter starts to unwind and jumps down like 10,000 ft at a time yet the plane really isn't decending or anything.
4. After about 30 seconds of all this, the plane finally overstresses.

Can someone please let me know what is happeneing. This is with the Microsoft 747-400 in World Travel Air paint scheme. I have no idea what is happening and it is really frustrating to have this happen each time I reload the flight.

Thanks.

From my experiences, if you're using real world weather with upper level winds enabled, this happens from time to time. It seems when you enter one weather area and fly into another weather area, the change is VERY sudden, not gradual. The wind direction will change dramatically and thus your airspeed will increase in a millisecond to the point of overspeed. Also, your baro pressure will change (even though it shouldn't matter above FL180) which causes the altimeter to go bonkers. When this happens, I turn off the auto throttle and slam them to idle, then hit the spoilers so I don't break apart. The only solution I found is to either not use upper level winds, or fly .4-.5 below max mach. This happens will all jets in fs2004.

Hope this helps

Ok thanks for that info. I'll d/l weather w/o the upper winds before I start that flight up again. This is the first time I've had this happen. Thanks again for the info.

You can also set the rate at which the wind speed/direction changes using fsuipc (or use fsmeteo, which does not cause the wind to go from 180/100 to 000/100 in a nanosecond)
