I just installed my new CPU Athlon 64 3200+ and the performance in FS2004 is fantastic compared to my old XP 2200+. I still have a lot of tweaking and adjustments to make but my first impressions are Wow!!!!

My system specs are:-

Athlon 64 3200+
1 Gb PC3200 Ram
Asus K8V Deluxe
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro

Once I have tweaked my system I will let you know if this is the perfect system for FS2004.

i've got a XP2200+, did you just unplug the old and plug in the new? i know my mobo will go up to 400 (133 now); or 800 fsb (266 fsb).

The Athlon 64 is an entirely new generation, the K8 generation. Athlon XP's are all K7's. You'd need a new motherboard to use the Athlon 64's.

The current A64 out now is the 754 pin version. I'm waiting for the 940 pin version which will have a dual memory controller. The 754's have a single memory controller.

I just ordered an Athlon Barton 2600+ (333mhz fsb). It will be my first AMD. I hope it is an improvement from my current Pentium 3 800mhz (133mhz fsb) :P

argh, is that a screenshot of what FS9 looks like on your system (mega super-dupa BTW), sorry but it looks way worse than FS2002 did with my old voodoo 5 and 1 gig t-bird.

Yes, but he's showing us the windowed version. If I'm right, that means no AA or AF. I bet the full-screen version looks much better.

Will be interesting to see how well both the A64 and the 64fx compare in performance...

As for the dual memory controller, that's really not going to give you much or any performance because...

1. The memory bandwidth is already almost maxed out and beyond the use of any apps currently out there..

2. Memory bandwidth of the A64 is sitting at 6+gb/sec if using 64bit mode..

not to mention that with the dual mem controller, the VIA and SiS chipsets are going to require DDR2 memory and not the current DDR1 that's out there...

That's gonna be pricy!!! ouch!

asalnars- Excellent score man !!! Just wait til stuff starts to get re-compiled in 64bit mode. Also, you should load up WinXP-64 or Win2k3 server Datacenter or Enterprise edition and try 64bit OS performance!!!

Unfortunately the size of images in this forum is limited.
Even in the windowed version it looks much better than this, trust me.
If you send me an e-mail address I' send you the orininal picture.

Maybe you should look around for some S/W updates or firmware updates cause those 3DMark scores are not that great. The cpu is up there pertty good, but they're not what a A64+ system should be pushing...

Just as a reference(look at my specs in my sig) this is what I got.
3DMark=5614 or 5608 (did 2 runs)- this is 1280x1024x32x4x16

and CPUMark is 701.

I think you need to do some tweaking cause the guys on Overclockers.com with A64 3200+'s are getting much higher score.

Maybe you could talk to them and see what's up.

Doesn't matter if they are limited, you just have to resize your shot down by 55-60% and resave. This pic uses only about 70K. Try redoing in full screen mode and then resize..it'll come out ok.

I went from a XP 2500+ Barton to a Athlon 64 3200+ just two weeks ago.
With all other specs the same this is the increase:

XP 2500+ Barton on a ASUS A7V8X : 4.180 3DMarks (2003)
414 CPUMarks(2003)

Athlon 64 3200+ on a MSI K8T NEO : 4.646 3DMarks (2003)
727 CPUMarks(2003)

Now I changed the graphic adapter also from a Radeon 9700PRO to a
MSI FX5900U-VTD256 and the score is now:

5.427 3DMarks (2003)
767 CPUMarks(2003)

I did have to install the Omega driver though in order to get it working.
