View Full Version : Non-DirectX 9 Graphics Cards

I am running FS9 (quite) well (compared to FS2k2) on a P3-800 and a 32MB GeForce II MX. I know that I am missing out on a lot, but what exactly? Higher Frame Rates - definately. Better image quality - undoubtedly. I have read a review of current graphics cards, both low, mid and high range models and am a little confused over the DirectX 9 issue.

The review goes on to say that even thought the low end cards (FX5200, ATi 9000/9200) may support DirectX 9, don't expect those games to be playable. Mid-range cards fare a little better, but as you would expect, only expect good performance from DirectX 9 games with the high end cards.

Now FS9 is a DirectX 9 game, is it not (because it installs it as part of the set up), and I suspect my GeForce 2 hasn't even heard of DirectX 9, yet the game runs ok. So what exactly is DirectX 9? What is my card doing instead to still run the game? And my original question, What am I missing out on?

Thanks in advance for making me a little more computer savvy. I plan to build a new PC soon, and any input would be appreciated.
