What kind of a system do you have. Also, you can get a nice used 17" or 19" monitor for really cheap.

Well if you get a fast system you might as well go with a 9800 pro and be real happy. I am sure a 9700 would fit the bill pretty well.

Why would you want to stay with a 15"? You have asked about that several times? My suggestion is upgrading the monitor and then worring about the card.

Then go with a lesser vaule card. Those cards don't shine until you kick up the resolution, turn on AA and AF. You will not see any noticeable difference at that resolution and save a whole lot of money going with something cheaper.
Your post asked "is it worth it" No, not at all with your current setup. Sorry, its like watching a bigscreen with High defintion with all those lines of Resolution, then going into your bedroom and watching the same thing on a 13 inch tv. Its just not the same. Unless you push those cards, they don't do anything for you. That is all I am trying to get at. You want to run 800X600. Any 3d card will do that. If it is DX8 compliant, then you get all the bells and whistles (reflections) that the $300-400 card gives you. Just do not want you to think that you are going to get major increases in performance (framerates) and eye candy. Not at that res. Not trying to be rude here. Just don't wan't you to make a mistake.

Thanks for your input i appreciate it. So what kind of card should i use my 15' 800x600 with? Or better yet which screen should i get at what resolution with an ati 9800 pro. I'm very new to this and i'm about to spend money so want to make sure thanks. Here's a newbie question can i connect my computer to a tv. And how does this work for anybody who tried it with fs9?

800x600 is not the native resolution for FS and therefore whatever card you use I suspect you will see lower frame rates than if you buy a bigger monitor and allow the game to use its native resolution of 1024x768 or higher. At that point you could then make the decision which card would be better for you. As it stands I would not have either the 9700 or the 9800 on a 15" monitor - it simply couldn't do it justice and I suggest you search some of the tech websites for information on how poorly ATi cards handle lower resolution 3d. You must `push` these cards to get the best out of them. If you must stick with 800x600 for some reason buy a 9600 Pro and save the money toward a new monitor as soon as possible.

I know my 9800 has a tv out on the video card. You connect it via an S Video cable to your tv. Have not tried it yet.
I know a lot of cards these days come with that feature.
