I have been using fs2004 for 5 days and thing it is absolutly wonderful. The ATC is MUCH better. I have no cloud problems, no mist problems, and don't care less about a missing bridge! I have yet to find a missing bridge for that matter. Is it perfect? Of course not, but every minor problem I have had with previous releases has been solved. I have flown more in the last few days than usual and continue to be amazed at the improvements I see that have been implemented in this new release. Scenery is better, ATC is better, adventures are challenging and intertaining. I have even learned to adjust to the new GPS, and now really enjoy it.
What I did find out was I had some initial confiquration issues:

1. The first day, when I would switch between views there might at times be system lock-ups or sound would not work, or frame rates dropped to near zero. Solution: downloaded most recent version of Fx9 or whatever it is. Problem solved, updated my sound card drivers while I was at it. MS forced me to update my video drivers with the install.
2. I am still not satisfied with my sound quality and am still working on that. it does not seem quite right.
3. I am not happy taking out disk 4 every time and have yet been unable to burn a backup. I will just hold on until somebody can find a work around.
addendum: just updated Abacus EZ-Landmark for 2004. It is much improved a I am overjoyed with it now in 2004.

Me too,
we must be a few of the lucky one's with no problems ;-)

The colours on the clouds at dawn and dusk are absolutely amazing...
The reflections on the water make me drool.....such an improvement...

On fs2002 i had sliders near enough on full with 32bit colours and 4xAA and 4xAF and was getting about 14-17 FPS

With FS2004 im running it with most sliders near full again but this time only in 16bit colours and i can't notice a difference between 32bit and 16bit in this one + i get better FPS in 16bit and it has solved a few menu issues aswell.

Im also not using any AA or AF and this really isn't making that big a difference on my system in fs2004 either, and im getting 16-22 FPS ( in normal situations ) and the graphics are way way better than fs2002.

All in all....im very very impressed aswell :-)

Same here. I've been lucky perhaps. I have an Athlon, about 1.6 or 1.7 I think (XP2200+)/1Gb RAM/Ti 4600 card/ Creative SB Live Platinum 5.1. All latest drivers, 45.20 on the vid card, and doing that last step (the 45.20 install) resolved ALL crashing and video problems. So far it has performed flawlessly. I also use FSUIPC 3 (paid for it tho I didnt have to), with WideFS (had to pay for, what I wanted, but worth *every* cent), and FS Meteo on my laptop. No crashes, and I can stop and restart FS Meteo (and WideFS for that matter) all I want.

Perhaps now that I've opened my big mouth, though, the screw-up fairy will visit me tonight and eat my sound card or somesuch.

Mark

EDIT: Whoops. That's 45.20 drivers, not 44.20.....

i agree, i can't believe how ridiculous some people's comments around here are, whining about how poor and pathetic FS2004 is. I have but won't install until i get more ram, and the pics i see are phenominal SO WHAT IF THERE ARE A COUPLE OF BRIDGES MISSING. Whoopdee doo, i'm sure there was stuff missing in FS2002. If it bugs you THAT much, get gmax and make an add-on, nobody here wants to here your incoherent whining FS2004 is the best flight sim yet, and to think some people say that its just fs2002 with 3D clouds is ridiculous. and some people here are complaing that the game won't run on their computer. of course it won't if you have a 300 mhz processor and 64 mb of ram and a itegrated 4mb video card. jeez man i can't believe what some of the people around here are saying about FS2004. Its the best flight simulator yet, and although it may have a few minor bugs here and there, which is expected in a game, it is a perfectly fine fun amazing STUNNIG game, and doesn't need a patch or anything, just beautiful add-ons

You might disagree with me but this is just my 2 cents and its my own opinion

Okay you guys, I give in!!

I've been sitting on the fence now for over a week, watching the forum threads. I've seen so many threads with problems of computer crashes and error messages when loading FS9 (and those about the structures on legs which span the stretches of water between land masses), that I've convinced myself that there will problems. But what the heck, the worst that can happen is I stick it on the shelf until I upgrade my system in a month or two. (maybe I'll try the hybrid FS 8.X suggested on the FS2002 forum)

Wow...All that commentary and you don't even have COF installed?

Actually.. I want to read all opinions, the griping ones and the boot licking ones and then I can make my OWN opinions about COF.

David

Totally agree

I like to see all comments

People don't just ''whine'' to waste time. They feel strongly about it. Better to listen to them and make up our own minds.
