Low sound levels?

Is anybody else experiencing low sound levels? The default slider
positions are barely audible. I have to max out some of them just to
get an acceptable level. If I turn up the system sound levels to compensate, the windows sound just about blows my speakers.

Pentium 4 - 2.66GHZ
1.0 GB DDR SDRAM (PC 2700)
64 MB Nvidia GeForce 4 Ti
Windows XP Professional

I too had this problem with my Santa Cruz card. I changed the hardware sound acceleration setting from full to basic - problem solved. You can do this by going to the start run menu, and type "dxdiag" and select the sound tab.
