I have a couple of simple questions if anyone can help me. I am running a higher end system P4 2.8Ghz processor 1 Gb of ram 533 bus speed. With FS2002 I could max every slider and select every option and maintain 20 to 25 fps with stunning scenery detail. I am getting 12 to 15 fps in fs2004 with all sliders maxed, but in FS2004 the ground, trees, and buildings jiggle and wrythe like a pit of snakes. Very bizarre. Weather and AI aircraft look fantastic. Can anyone help please? Also, when I click on the FS2004 icon on my desk top the program keeps asking me to put disc 4 back in the drive before the program will start??? Thanks for any help.

Sounds like a video card driver issue. And yes, you need Disk 4 in the CD/DVD to run the program (but see some other threads on how to get around this).

My video card is a nVidia GEForce 4 4200Ti 128mb that I purchased only two months ago. Would my driver already be obsolete?

Your framerate with FS2004 sounds about right. There are two things that I've found are quite different from FS2002 in that regard. The autogen scenery and the clouds are much denser in FS2004 and require much more CPU power to generate. I think if you back off the a bit on those two sliders and get the autogen and clouds down to the FS2002 nevel you'll find the framerate is about the same. As for needing disk #4 in the drive, that's an attempt by MS to stop piracy. There are numerous places on the web where you can find the No_CD patch which will eliminate the need to keep putting the CD in the drawer. Have you visited this website lately http://www.freedomhays.com/ ?

Two months ago? Nvidia probably release 4-6 drivers since then. :) I downloaded the latest reference drivers and still get the problems you describe. Along with strangeness with the menus and leaving the sim to get to desktop.

[center]if your using Detonator XP drivers 44.03, then I would revert back to the ones before those as the 44.03 are designed for GeForce FX cards, hence the name Detonator FX

The current driver on Nvidia's website is simply 44.03 for XP. It doesn't say anything about "detonator" and I'm not at home to see what driver is on my computer now. If I understand you I should search the archives and use an older XP driver for the 4200Ti?

Just set the Mip Mapping slider to 4 and leave it there.

Thanks for the Mip Map info Peter, I am getting the feeling from reading these posts it must be a combination of drivers and Mip Map settings. I also appreciate the info on the 44.67 driver update, but what is a guru39?
