Just read on Avsim that Meigs is no longer the deafult airport since it was clos...err...destroyed by Mayor Daley.

KSEA is apparently now the default field.

Oh wow that sucks that it's not default anymore. Well I don't mind KSEA though.

Its too bad about Meigs not being in there, but I am happy that my home airport is the default now. For those that havent flown out of there, the Pacific Northwest is a great place to fly. After take off, you can head north to Seattle for some city flying, head west for the coast, or east for the Cascades moutain range. Best of all, these are all very close to Seatac, so whatever one of these types of flying you are into, they are in easy reach. Another fun place to take off is at Kenmore Air Harbor or Seattle Seaplanes to take off from Lake Washington, which the eastern part of Seattle sits on. In FS2002, Microsoft did a pretty decent job at modeling Seatac. It may not be up to 3rd party standards, but it isnt a poorly done airport either.

It doesn't matter to me what the "default" airport, aircraft, etc., is, because I use the last aircraft, airport, location, etc., that I was at when I exit the sim. By doing this, my default may be in the middle of a flight or whatever the situation was previously.

Just the way I prefer to have it.

I figured they would migrate to this area, since this is where the "lessons" take place in the sim. I'm not complaining, I think the area is much more beautiful than Chicago, but I liked Chicago because it was in my time zone (Central) and as such no matter where I went from there was proper time.

Still, since daylight ends two hours later there than it does here, might be nice to have that as the default airport since most of my flights take place in the early evening.

Kenneth

P.S. Is there any way that you can change your default flight and still have the sim resort to "System Time" instead of whatever time it is where you leave the flight?

Hello ............ !!!
You are aware that you can create any situation at any location and make it the default flight yes?
Who cares what the default flight is, So long as the sim works.
I never used the default flight situation in fs98 / 2000 /or 2002. What is the first thing you do when you get your shiny new FS box. You go straight to your home airport and set up a situation and save it. I do anyway.
Lucky you, if the default airport happens to be your local.
You know what! Why not go to meigs in a Cessna and save the situation then (You guessed) set it as default. I may do just that being as it is no longer the default. Providing it is still , in fact, there. :-)

Sorry, didn't mean to sound condescending but hey !

It should still be represented just as it is now,but to keep things real it shouldn't be the default. I was hoping they would just move the default over to Midway but I guess Seattle is fine also.

I don't really fly out of Meigs except once--a tradition I've done since FS98. When I get the new sim loaded and configured I take-off and fly back to Wichita. Looks like I'll have a longer hop this time around....

Yea I used to do the same except I flew from Meigs to KBDL or KRIC. I have a really long hop ahead of me now from KSEA. Should be a fun adventure.

Come to think of it, it really makes no sense that they would choose this as the default airport, unless they're going to move the initial focus away from GA. Only about 1% of SEA's traffic is GA, which stands to follow that at most major airports there is very little GA. Well, how does the default flight with the Cessna 172 fit into this picture? Heck, Microsoft said themselves that there would be accurate traffic for airports: no GA at larger ones, and no commercial at the smaller ones. To me this just shines as an inconsistency. What about some of the other airports in the area, one of the ones that is used in some of the lessons, like KPAE, KBFI, KPWT, KTIW... or better yet, find an airport that would logically support a mix of both commerical and general aviation... something with middle-of-the-road characteristics that can support the larger planes if and when need be, but not gearing directly to them.

Thoughts....

Think where microsoft is... Ill leave it as that!

We have a reasonable amount of GA traffic at KSLC which is a Class B airport. And there is a GA reliever airport 10 miles south. I've even gotten to use one of the runways that is nearly strictly commercial, once in an Archer. So the whole scenario fit's the picture as far as I'm concerned. If not, you can always switch the default airplane..

I'd say that MS had already "spruced" up SeaTac for FS2004, and it was quite logical for a "last minute" switch. They were probably holding out to see if Meig's might actually re-open! :)

KSEA Is A Stupid Default.......WHY?????????

In the real world KSEA is %95 commercial Airline traffic %4 Cargo and the rest is coorperate travel....there is little.. no... none as far as 172s making T&Gs not at $300.00 a landing for a user fee.

Sea-Tac was spuced up in 2002 so the only thing left for MS to to is get the tarmack textures correct this time...they left them out last time...But if you want a really realistic KSEA check out the library here and over at Avsim for my KSEAupgrade addon.....

The better choice would have been KRNT(Renton) or KBFI but hey as said earlier you have the ability to make any airport your default airfield......the CHOICE is yours.

Thats my opinion.

I mean that you start every place you want and it will alwayes take the local time and not the pc-time becouse it takes this as the zulu time (and its not in my case).

What's all this whining about anyway?!

the day ttools came out was the last time "landmark" "world travel" and etc. airlines were to be seen on me screen, because I got real AI plans, aircrafts and so on.
same goes for fs2k4, at least for me.
I got 800 AI aircraft (mostly from projectAI) and tons of other flight plans, who needs the 3 default airlines and aircrafts anyway?
besides that, nobody's forcing you to take off from KSEA if you don't like it... I know I rarely fly out of meigs myself these days, but that's me... :-)
