In the course of the past months I tried different ground texture sets for a while but always come back to the original Microsofts one finding them best for my eye.
After all this is personal preference and taste but I´m interested in hearing who else is pleased with the default or anyone having an alternative at hand I haven´t tried yet?
I used Silver Wings/Golden Wings textures so far as well as the freeware set for Alaska. I also tried a commercial package for FS2004 I had at hand which worked well but I didn´t like it that much (Ground Enviroment).
Anyone having this great touted FScene installed?

Hi,
you are pretty right. I use the Silver Wings, too. It's very nice with some really good looks but also with some minor bugs. It is more for the buch pilot with many more trees added. In some places this is nice. In cities it looks stupid.
I'm thinking about returning to the originals, too. (Same with new sun and water effects.) Pretty often the original is the best compromise.

I just reinstalled FS2002 after I caught some probs after installing a lot of add-ons.
I make do now with a vanilla installation and cut off the download stress.
And again, the default lokks pretty good.
Thanks for your opinion.

Well. I do think that the replacement textures by Bill and Lynn Lyons (the Silver etc) are pretty good. Albeit some 'bizarre' for some cities
On the other hand, when one re-install the default FS2002 (or whatever the version), one always finds the default much enough that all what one had buried it under :) All surely is a matter of ponderation (much default, some add-ons) :)

SilverWings gives the sim a '60s look, and there were
a lot more trees then, and open spaces in the cities!!

I do consider the Silver/Golden Wings textures as a great idea and effort.
I guess my goal was over the past months to make this sim a perfect piece of software and actually ended up in tons of downloads of all kinds, rather then flying and in the end I had to reinstall because I messed up something.
I guess I just try to make peace with the sim as it is - it is great but not as real as it gets.
But now I am enjoying flying rather than tweaking.

Tried several texture sets including a demo of FScene and some freeware sets. Whilst they were intersting to try, I have always gone back to the FS defaults too.
One set of upgrades which I have stuck with is AEU (Airport Environment Upgrade) which provides better runway, taxiway and airport building textures.
