View Full Version : Any Idea About How Small A Flying Object May be Designed in FS2002?

Hi,

after an unsuccessfull passage about the designers' forum, I would like to know whether someone there would have any idea about how small a flying object -or plane- may be deviced in FS. The question came to me lately as I'd seen a toy plane and helo in the download section. Both, unluckily were over-scaled. As I know that some real-world researches are pending about tiny spying flying things, does someone know down to what size something may be built for FS? UAVs, on the other hand, can me modeled (there are some on this site), as the question might even be of interest -why not- for RC practitioners, who could get their small RC planes modelled into FS

Thanks

I use FSDS and I've re-scaled a plane in FS2002, so I can answer your question :)

If you have the original source file you can rescale any flight sim aircraft! I've resized a plane to only 1.7 feet in length :). Design programs allow you to manipulate the source files in many ways, including scale and rotation, plus a whole host of other properties.

If you don't have the original source file then you can't do any of those things. Go to www.freeflightdesign.com and look at the source files available. You can play around with them in FSDS or GMAX, depending on the file format :)

Update: click on this link: http://www.simviation.com/adoptfsc.htm

There's an R/C plane ready to go on that page (FSDS Great Planes Easy Sport .40). You will need FSDS to use it, though.

Thanks. Not only for me, as more people, I believe, may be interested. The question, further, now might be whether the plane may be constructed from scratch ;-)
Let's wait to see if some more opinions emerge!

Hi, I got some more feedback on the designers' forum. The experts, there, told me that 4 mm is the minimum below which two vertices will collapse when compiled. This is true for both a plane built from scratch or a model scaled. So, it seems the question is over ;-) Thanks for the answers
