DC10 Problem

Hello all! I am having a problem flying any DC-10; the aircraft seems to fly at a 10 degree nose up position at any altitude. I can't adjust the elevator either. Is this normal, for the DC-10 to fly at this angle? All aircraft should fly level...I thought!

Hello macman,

The angle-of-attack for any aircraft depends on weight and airspeed, as well as altitude. As you said, commercial airliners are nearly level during cruise, otherwise the flight attendants couldn't push the liquor carts up the aisle. In any event, 10 degrees is too high.

Give us some examples of airspeed, altitude and weight. Weight in pounds isn't necessary for now; just note whether it is full of fuel, empty or somewhere in between.

Can I assume that your simulator is set up properly to display Indicated Airspeed, not True Airspeed?

The real DC-10, when heavily loaded, flies with a pronounced nose-up angle at cruise.

Hi,
Even though the plane flies at a high angle of attack, and it bothers you, you can adjust the "using Notepad to edit your aircraft.cfg file. Adjustment is in degreees. Make the changes slowly, and remember to back up your air file.

That's better than me. I get up to about 30,000 and my speed drops waaayyyyy down to about 185 ias, then stalls.
