View Full Version : Aircraft selection in FS2002 - Freeze/reboot...blah..

I often add AI planes to my fleet. I also occasionally add airport scenery to FS2002. Recently, a problem has flared up where my game freezes when going into the aircraft selection menu. Sometimes immediately, sometimes while scrolling through the planes.
I have tried removing various newer aircraft from the aircraft folder to see it that would help...no. I have deleted the FS2002.cfg file, and let the sim rebuild it...no.
I have no idea what to try next. But I have a related question. Is the default.dp file supposed to be in this folder? I also have a default.cdp in this folder...are they supposed to be in the aircraft folder??? I know what default.dp is, not sure at all what default.cdp is...
Please, offer suggestions. I'll try anything to see if it works!
Thanks alot!! :7

Those are supposed to be there. How many planes do you have? If possible, get AirMan. Then put away the planes you don't fly. That might work. Do you get error messages? If so, it would help if you told us exactly what it said.

AirKevin,
It says nothing...it freezes, and I have to re-boot!! Sometimes it will freeze as soon as I get into the selection window, sometimes I can scroll through to try and select a plane, then it freezes a moment later.
I have folders outside the sim for planes that I am not using, these are planes I personally fly. My aircraft folder in FS2002 is almost totally AI fleets, plus about 4 planes I fly regularly - a guessing total would be maybe 25 aircraft types, with over 100 repaints of PAI and AI-AARDVARK planes.
Thanks for responding, any ideas now???????? :7

Okay, that's where problems can come in. Get AirMan, and put away the ones you don't fly.

I will check that out, but they have always been there, for the last year anyway. This problem just started 2 weeks ago, and I have been trying to isolate the culprit with no luck. I keep taking out the most recent AI add-ons to find one that's a problem, but I can't seem to pinpoint the killer here!!
Thanks for the suggestion, I'll try it...though honestly, I am confident the planes I fly are not the issue. :7
edit* I know there are people with way many more AI in their fleet, but maybe there is a limit of repaints per aircraft or something? There has got to be some part of this equation that went over a limit or something???? The four I have in there that I fly are 2 old POSKY 767's, and 2 757's....hmmmm :7

I think there's a limit of planes you can have.

HI!
I just wanted to tell you, the problem lies with my mouse somewhere (all of a sudden). I tried playing around just using my keyboard tab and arrow keys, and I have no problems at all. I don't know if it's because I changed some 3D settings in the ATI set-up, like AF up to 16X, and High Quality instead of Performance....those are the only system related changes I've made recently.
At least I know it's not a sim problem, or aircraft related!!! :7
Happy Flying..

Well, that's a good thing. I guess the only thing I can say is to use another mouse. My mouse is a Logitech one, and the one I used to use was a Microsoft IntelliMouse. I switched mouse and it was better, although it made no difference. Just go for one of those.
