[center]Hey guys, I was wondering what exactly could be transfered from FS9 to FS8(runway textures, sky, etc), I remember one guy who did it a couple months ago, any knowledge would be helpful :)

ive seen screenshots where the World/SceneryDB textures have been moved accross.

I think Owain (slartys brother) has done alot of this sort of thing.

Hi,
The only texture that`s will works, are the texture that`s will overwrite the fs2002 files.

All Weather/sky environment, water bumpmaping, taxi texture, do not works in fs2002.New texture name implemented in fs2004 will not works in fs2002.

But then again, I tried installing the new FS2004 water effects in FS2002, same file names (although different folder), and the results were horrible.
Thank ##### I make a back up.

Gee, I can't believe the "G" word was blocked out. Who'd be offended by that? Atheists? Common...

Nice find...the sky in the pics is much improved although I think I prefer the FS2002 water to "FS8.5".
Anyways, I dont even own FS2004 (yet) so it dosen't make a difference.

I have copied all the textures from the main Texture folder to the main texture folder of FS8. I said "yes" to overwrite files.

(I took all the textures inside the folder - not the folder. It could make trouble IF you have some add ons which uses some textures inside the main texture folder).

Then I took the WORLD folder and copied it to FS8.

It has been wokring since the first time I read at this forum that it was possible.

Hey Dkoy, (or anybody else!)

Have any idea what the default FS2002 runway tex are? I wanted to try this when it was originally posted, but didn't 'cause I didn't want to lose my numbers!! :7

I have moved autogen textures, sun and water textures, effects, paint schemes, clouds, some planes will work (stock FS9 wont, they are invisible)...

The more creative folks I'm sure can load, view and rename texture files as they wish. It's always been like that.

I admire this persistence and dismissiveness from the get go. Every post with reference/interest to FS 8.5 has put a ruffle in your feathers. These folks are creating and tweaking a SIM they love and you don't agree. Okay. But the this horse has been flogged to death. One undisputable fact though when we come to the river and the bridge is gone the instinct is to turn back. If FS 8.5 pleases these folks then as the John and Paul wrote "Let it be". :7

Hi,

The point here is, I am trying to explain what's will works and not, it's not about creative folks, it's about how Msfs works and understanding the code/engine implementation. You can not implement new code in fs2002, new texture are implemented and only triggered in the code and are used with the fs2002 directory, you wont see any new sky color in fs2002 as well for all new weather system from fs2004 to fs2002 and others stuff, like the improved AI Traffic, weather system, 3d clouds, ATC, all new taxi texture, etc.. These need hard/change the code from Msfs team, Exemple; the sky color is impossible to change them in in fs2002, it's in the code and do not use any texture for the sky, it's the same for all others stuff new in fs2004 that's works completly differents than fs2002. Rename as you want you will see. I am bit surprised about using fs2004 texture in fs2002, which you can have much better from 3rd fs2002 party stuff on scenery, aircraft, photo real waters, ground, etc. You can called 8.1, swapping texture was already done from fs2002 3rd party.

Chris

Sure enough. I see some dudes messin' with the SIM and some folks are "greying" it out. I think it's cool. It's like pieces of a puzzle and these cats are puttin' something together.
