Why is that people moan about paying 50 USD for FS2004? It's especially ironic b/c people seem to have no trouble paying 30+ for an add-on that adds a single thing to FS. However, the new version of FS has (I know i'm forgetting somethings, but oh well):
Better weather engine and skies
More aircraft, and they are better looking
Clickable VCs (ok, I know Wilco has done them, but no one else)
Better AI and ATC
Taxiway Signs
Full Garmin 530 and I believe 230 GPS
Better & more scenery
Better graphics in some cases
Ok, so any one thing may not be done as accurately as, say the PIC 767, but it's still all up there with most payware, and we get ALL that for 50 USD.
So what cause do you have to complain?
Oh, and let's wait a few years before we get a re-write. I mean, look at current computers. Not everyone has a 3.0 ghz Canterwood P4 or Barton Athlon 3200 in their systems. And FS with the CURRENT engine can chug on even "mid-gen" systems.

I would think people would pay just for the airports. JFK, Miami, denver and dallas are all upgraded to look as good as sea-tac or ohare.. bob

I really can't fathom it myself.

Agreed. I'm now in about 400$ or so on various payware, yoke, rudder pedals, etc.
And I love it all...

I've only bought two payware addons. But, I just bought a brand new SUV! Now, I fear, I'll have to budget for FS2k4.

I think a lot of people expect a revolutionary new product when it comes to a "new version".
The biggest complaint I think we all see is that 2004 doesn't apparently offer enough new features for those people, and they feel the features it does improve upon should have been done "in the first place" with FS2002.
Therefore, FS2004 is a big expensive patch for 2002 in many of their minds.
Personally, I feel that is a load of bunk. A rewritten weather code and essentially rewritten sky visuals (sky color and weather) are huge benefits, even BEFORE the additional planes, additional detailed airports, FAR more functional ATC, Garmin stacks, and assorted other performance enhancing features and extras.
One of two things will happen when 2004 ships:
* Either it will be an AMAZING DISAPPOINTMENT and those who resisted the purchase will say "I told you so".
or
* Those who resisted purchasing it will probably buy it a week or two after its release after hearing about how good it actually is.
I think #2 is far more likely.
To each their own,

What always killed me is people who won't buy payware that is more realistic yet will own a $300 Hotas to feel more realistic :-hmmm
I didn't buy payware for along time. MS2002 is my first CIV sim but I've purchased 15 Alpha Sim files, 12 LZ helos, some Abacus files, Lago's Tornado & F-16, FSGenesis and I'm sure some other utilities.
I'm looking forward to 2004 just because of the features listed above

According to my log books, real and virtual:
FS2002 cost per hour = $0.14 (and declining)
Cessna 152 cost per hour = $86 (not including instructor)
Seems like a pretty good deal to me and I see no reason why FS2004 won't be the same.

TopGun; I don't think anyone is complaining about paying $50 for FS2k4. Rather, the perception at this point is that it is just an upgrade. Folks are probably disappointed that that is all it really appears to be. I for one am gonna wait a week or so after its release just to make sure it's what's advertised. I did the same thing with CFS3 and ended up not buying it because of the bad reports. Nothing wrong with waiting and expressing that opinion.
As far as people complaining about payware, that's their perogative. I happen to think that payware, among other things, is way overpriced and the motivation is certainly not in furtherance of this hobby. I've only bought one payware aircraft. Big disappointment. Got ripped. Total waste of $20 bucks. But that's a risk we take when buying something we can't try out beforehand.
You're entitled to your opinion. I do plan on buying the Beechjet and Premier after the end of the month. Only because I really want a nice private jet and the beech got great reviews and I loved the Premier in Xplane and there's no good ones available anywhere for FS2k2.

Usually,( but not always ), because they havent the slightest idea of what flying is like in reality. !!
'Weather' is the world in which you fly in real world.. for a computer sim, an upgrade to the main weather engine and visuals is a CRITICAL factor in simulating reality...
So, some want to look at internal toilets of heavy jets.. some want to look at virtual passengers with virtual luggage... kewl.. (Freud would have a field day)...
Some want to actually simulate the flight of an aircraft from a pilots perspective... to these people - (I certainly am one) any change to improve the weather engine is a MAJOR change, development, evolution.. call it what you will...
So, to sum up.... virtual toilets dont need an improved weather engine.. so what would be the point of these guys buying it - they would be better off developing add-on honey tanks ;-).

I would pay over $100 If I had too! I love all new upcoming versions of flight simulator each brings something new into perspective.

I know I'll be hittin' Fry's up on that day. I wouldn't think twice even if the graphics were the same. Just having a clickable VC would sell me.
