Unless I glossed over it I haven't seen anything in a while from
the Capt'n. If he's taking a little hiatus I hope he gets back
on board soon, especially with FSCOF approaching. His wisdom
(and wit) is appreciated by many.

I thought I heard him mention that he would be taking a vacation or something about a week ago. I'd assumed he'd be gone for at least a week and now it's looking more like two or three.
Oh well, even Slarty needs a break every now and then. :-)

What's the deal with the Slarty groopies in here? I agree that Joe has a lot of good info to provide and his comments are usually entertaining, but it seame that a lot of people in here seem to worship him in some strange way?........
No offence to any members here or anything, I give respect to all, just an observation I guess.....

Hi Mike,
Wouldn't call myself a "groupie", but I do quite enjoy Ole Slarty.
Stick around awhile.......He'll start to "grow" on ya!

I'll be first to admit that Joe used to get on my nerves a little. He has definatley grown on me though. Much more than the ill-fated S.E. ever did. Just hang around awhile and you'll find his way of doing things gets funny after a few months.
I'm hardly a Slarty 'groupie.' We have our differences. You sort of miss him after awhile though.

He has an "unusual" approach that some interpret as abrasive.
Having known him for a while now, it's an inaccurate assessment by those that make it. However some folk you like and some you don't. Either way, you'd be very hard pushed to find anyone who knows more about hardware than Joe.

Thanks to all responses. Tim, guess I missed the thread where
Joe was taking off a while. To Mr. Sieffert, my nickname is
Buddy, surname Reiser. Ergo, or something like that. If my last
name was Weiser I'd probably be sued by the beer folks and forced
to change my name to Budheineken or something.
I'm not a celebrity nut so please don't put me in the groupee
category. In fact, most wouldn't agree (my wife included) with
what I think of celebrities getting awards. I think they are
overpaid and underworked, and some don't know when to keep their
trap shut. Don't wish to start a war here, just my opinion. As
Tim said above, Joe's a funny (and knowledgeable) person. What's
not to like?

Ok, so I have got to bite on this one... "S.E" ?
I've been off the board for quite some time, so please bear with me if I happen to trigger any flash-backs.
I have noticed, since I've been back, a certain "missing element" from the forum. I remember when folks would write A****M when talking about the "other site" in order to avoid being chided for mentioning a rival site's name.
So, I'm assuming that S.E. finally did something that banned him from the site and mentioning his name gets you a smack form the moderators... so I won't.... could someone enlighten me via email? I kinda miss the guy.
I like reading Slarty's posts as well, isn't that what we are here for... sharing informataion? He just has a different flair in how he does that. :-)

No can do Mr. Sieffert. I'm retired and plan on staying in
that status. Besides, working for the guv all my life as a
mid level (GS-11 or less) employee, I dealt with enough of what the Clydesdales deposit. But appreciate your humor.

I'll tell you what, I think just about everyone on this thread has given me some good advice in some way or another along the last year I've been a visitor. I thank all of you, and yes Joe definately grew on me, as well as advised me well..and his banner is just so appropriate!!!! :7

My humor was honed by 35+ years with Unca Sam and I retired at 55. I guess one can put up with most anything for a good early retirement. I plan on staying retired as long as Unca sends the check each month.
I have all of Scott Adams, Dilbert books in my reference library. I'm sure you know what I mean!!!

Ah yes. My son turned me on to Dilbert years ago. Don'cha just
love Pointy Hair. I hung on to age 60 and would have gone for 2
more for max retirement. With the arrival of Nexrad, the civilian
weather office at NAS Pensacola was doomed as Mobile and Eglin
AFB was chosen as the Nexrad sites. Guv dangled a 25K carrot in
front of me (job buyout) and I took it, ran, and never looked
back. Isn't life great!

Hiya Bud,
Unfortunately I had to make an emergency trip to the Isles of Scilly (UK) as my Dad was seriously ill. Steve (my bro - the one with the helo controls site) came over from Canada too as we knew it was not good.
The day Steve arrived in the UK, Dad passed away and we were still 400 miles away and couldnt get there till the Monday (12th).
We buried Dad at sea on the 17th May in the Islands.
It was upsetting, but in a way a fitting end for a man who spent half his life at sea including 4 years full time lifeboat crew at the Humber lifeboat in the 50's.
At least we know he is at peace now.
Arrived back on the mainland UK yesterday evening.
Thanks for the concern Bud, and others, I appreciate it mate.
Now, life goes on......
Joe.

My sincere commiserations. I visited the Islands a few years ago, and its a beautiful place to be put to rest.
As a volunteer first aider with St. John Ambulance I have tremendous respect and admiration for those who put their life on the line when they put out to sea to rescue others. May he rest in peace.
Best wishes,

My condolences to you and your family, Joe.
It can be hard at times when we lose someone that has always been there in are lives and suddenly they are not here anymore.
Further on down the road old memories will pop up and you will catch yourself smiling and even laughing out loud at times from all the good times you had with him. I think that if he was anything like you he must have had to have had a good sense of humor.
As you said, “Now, life goes on......”
So keep your chin up his spirit alive and keep the humor and helpfulness you provide to us going.
Best wishes,
