Looks better when it is looking more silvery, and less white.

Hi,
It is a real pic. There are 3 so far, all released on the same day. 1 747-400, 1 A319, 1 757-300. There will be 74 other aircraft painted up in this scheme this year...according to the employee release, it will be all done in 5 years.

Brian,
I agree, it looks better when they bring out the silver finish. Still a tad bland, but not bad. To be honest, I was never all that crazy about the old 'all red' scheme either. This looks a little bit more modern and cleaned up. At least I'll be able to put up with it when they all look that way in KDTW in a couple of years.

I'm not sure but I believe I was the first to reply to your
original post with the new paint job. Said it was boring or
something to that effect. Can I change my mind? That looks like
it could grow on you. Maybe it's the Airbus. Looks great on it.
I'm an old-timer. Love the old EAL paint job on the DC-3 in
the Smithsonian, the old UAL before the boring gray, the DAL's
from the 60's & 70's, and the old National's with the Fly Me
girls. Also the US Air before they painted them dark blue (or
almost black, whatever).

That, is good one. That white 747 wasn't any good but as someone pointed
when the silver apperas, it looks quite good! :)

Eh....I don't like it. :(
I think the scheme would look better on the 747 and 757 if they polished up the bare metal like AA does, instead of put silver paint there. AA's scheme is gorgeous, and so was Eastern Airline's scheme. Polished metal looks soooo good. :)

LAST EDITED ON Apr-04-03 AT 10:13PM (EST)[p]paint is cheaper than polishing...There is a lot of man hours that go into polishing a plane. Easier to paint and go and only have to wash the planes every so often. I really really am starting to like the new paint scheme.

Yes, but using bare metal and polishing it saves weight, and therefore, makes the plane more fuel efficient, save much more money in the long term.
I originally thought NWA was going with bare metal for this very reason. I didnt know they were still applying silver paint to the planes. Thus, they've gotten very very little economic benefit out of this, except that the planes will be cheaper to paint with the new design. But in terms of efficiency, very little has been gained in this case.

Silver on aircraft. There is very little better (in aviation, that is ;-))
