iS DIRECT X 9 A GOOD CHOICE OVER DX 8 WHICH IS ALREADY INSTALLED.
If so must I uninstall 8 BEFORE installing DX9?

My specs are:
DELL Pentium 4 processor at 2.4GHz -
1024MB PC800 RDRAM -
128MB DDR ATI Radeon 9700 Pro Graphics card.

For some it is, for some it isn't. For me it will never happen on my current system which works stable as a wall from the very beginning; so why should I change anything?!

No, you don't need to.

Incase you aren't experiencing any problems with FS at the moment you shouldn't change.

I had DX8.1 on my WinXP and installed 9, that f*cked everything up and I couldn't fly online anymore. I had to fromat my harddrive in order to get it right again...

Anyway, now I run WinXP SP1 and I've heared that DX9 should work with SP1 so I've been thinking about an upgrade.

But when everyting comes around my system is "rock steady" now with DX8.1 so I see no reason of upgrading.

If you have directx 8.0 or 8.1, don't change. If, like me, you upgraded to directx 8.2, courtesy of CFS3, there may be some advantages to moving to version 9.0, which seems to have cleared up some of the problems. Don't expect big gains in fps, but it cured a problem I was having with anti-aliasing and so far, it seems to be stable.

Hello ya'll

I can't offer any comment on the Direct X 9 issue, but I definitely remember seeing a statement at Microsoft's website relative to Direct X 8.1 which said "CANNOT BE UNINSTALLED". Stumbled across this when I was downloading vers. 8.1. If Microsoft's website was more user-friendly, I'd go back and try to find the URL and paste it in here but I usually blow a cork or two every time I go there so not gonna do it now. But I know I saw that when I did my download. Does that mean if you want to get rid of DX8.1 you have to reinstall your OS? I'm probably not qualified to answer, but don't have any other ideas.

Dat's my 2 cents worth. But I think there is merit in the gentleman's comments about LEAVING WELL ENOUGH ALONE. If your machine is behaving nicely with what you have-- yes, I'd definitely stay away from new drivers, new anything else, unless it's really some big whoopdee-doo, and doubt DX9 meets that criteria.

The installation of DX9 and the new Nvidia drivers that are for DX9 got rid of EVERY problem in EVERY game I own.

Just my 2 cents.

I have gone back to 8.1 on my AMD 700m system It ran OK but It and the latest Video driver did not help in fact it slowed my OLD OLD Nvida 32m DDR a bit so I went back to 8.1 and an older detonator driver that work good together on my system and now here it stays from now on.

So If you have an older system I would say stay with 8.x unless there is a program you want to install on that system that requires DX9.

I see a new system in my future before I run any DX9 based software.. LOL maybe this time next year.
