G'Day everyone.
Im having some issues with FS2002. At anytime during the game, the screen suddenly goes completly black. The only way out is to restart. It used to run fine, but now it crashes all the time. Does anyone have CFS3 and FS2002 installed on the same system and running dx8.2? This is what I am running and I think dx8.2 may be the problem.
Also, Ive herd that Dx8.2 has cause grief for many people. So maybe this is the cause.
Does anyone know how to go back to dxv8.1? Is it possible?
Thanks to anyone who can help.

Have you tried testing your DirectX with the DirectX Diagnostic utility? If not, select start, accessories, system tools, system information, tools, DirectX Diagnostic. Test all the directx functions. If any fail, try the troubleshooting tab to see if you can fix your problem.
You also may need different graphics adapter, controller chips, sound drivers.

Ryan has already run the DX Diagnostic Utility, which shows no errors.
Ryan has been having 'crash' episodes with FS2002 since he installed CFS3, which installs and utilises DX 8.2.
DX 8.2 is known to cause various problems with some programs that utilise DX, FS2002 being one of those.
To over come his current issue (and to return to the previous FS2002 state, in which it was running trouble free with no crashes), he is going to remove CFS3 and what he is asking is this:
If he installs DX9, will this over come the problems that DX8.2 is causing?
or
will he be better off un-installing DX8.2, removing CFS3 and installing DX 8.1
and
what is the name of the tool that you use to remove DX and where does he find it.
Ryan had trouble free operation of FS2002 right up until he installed CFS3 and DX8.2
If anyone else has FS2002 and CFS3 installed on the same computer and is having or has had problems with DX8.2 and has installed DX9 as an update, Ryan would like to hear from them to see if the problem was resolved with the installation of DX9.
He will also appreciate any other advice/comments that may be forthcoming.
and to save you asking why I replied for Ryan? because where he is, its 4:00am and he's asleep. We discussed his issue tonight but as yet it remains unresolved.

Thanks Luke.
I hoped that when I got on the net thismorning. I would have some more options. Doesnt look that way.
Im still in a hard position. I have no idea how to remove DX8.2 and go back to 8.1. Or I can go up to DXv9. I would rather go back to 8.1.
Cheers

I get the same problem sometimes. But I do not have DirectX8.2 . The Black screen problem for me started when i got my GeForce 4 video card. It usually happens to me when i minimize the game. But it usually returns to the normal screen after about 20-30 seconds.

Hi,
I'd be inclined to install dx9 and hope it solves your problems.
The dx uninstaller program you're looking for is called "DX Buster". Do a search in www.google.com to find it.
If dx9 doesn't work out, you can uninstall it with this program and then re-install with dx 8.1 if you wish.
Be sure to check with dxdiag that all is well after an install of dx.
Hope this helps.

I am having serious problems with multiplayer in FS2002 after installing CFS3. I posted a message about it last week. I too tried to install DirectX9 as a possible solution but that did not work. In the post I mentioned I also quoted part of an article given to me by a friend which hinted at multiplayer probs caused by DirectX9.
I haven't had time yet to try it but I am going to try to remove all DirectX related files by using a utility called DirectX Buster and re-install the version that came with FS2002.

AJ

Thanks for the help guys. I have installed DXv9. It didnt help. I reinstalled FS2002 about 15minutes ago and tested it. Worked fine, installed that new Meljet 777 and tested it and it crashed. I guess I cant use this plane, which is really making me mad. Im ready to smash this computer.

Only thing is that it used to crash before the Meljet 777 was released, but it seemed to do it more now with this aircraft.
Im using the PSS 777 panel and sounds. But I just tested them with another plane and it didnt crash.
Im confusing myself but I hope someone understands.
