View Full Version : Wayyyy to much fuel flow!

Hey all. I’ve never edited a file before in FS2002. So I’m really a newbie in this area. I have an addon aircraft that appears to guzzle more fuel than it should. It’s a CASA 295. I found some specs on the internet that indicate that this plane should be able to fly roughly 800 nm in an ‘over loaded’ condition. However, I could barely make this flight in an empty condition. I’m assuming FS2002 always fly’s in an empty condition? In an empty condition this plane is supposed to be able to fly in excess of 2000 nm. ( As per specs from the internet. )

The FS2002 plane carries much more fuel than the real plane carries. So the issue must be the fuel flow rate. ( Which is horrendous, like over 3500 lbs per hour, per side! ) So how would I tweak down the over all FF rate? Or can I? Any help is appreciated.

Scott

You need to adjust fuel_flow_scalar= 0.900 (lower number, less fuel burn) located in the GeneralEngineData section that's within the aircraft .cfg file...Rick Sasala

Great, thanks for the response. I will try this tonight when I get home. Am I correct in assuming we always fly empty? Would be cool to be able to load the plane up like in FLYII.

Along those same lines, how would I tweak down the total amount of fuel? Or will it be obvious once I get in there?

Thanks,

Scott

"how would I tweak down the total amount of fuel?"
It's in the same file, look for the fuel section. What do you mean by "Am I correct in assuming we always fly empty?"? I like others just adjust the total fuel amount within FS2002 for any given flight. Once you start messing with the fuel amount in the .cfg file, you could also affect cog....Rick Sasala

My question about flying empty meant payload. Since there is not a way to change payload, is the takeoff weight always full fuel, and 0 payload?

I was just thinking that it would be cool to be able to load the plane up.

It depends on what's in the .cfg file....Rick Sasala

The default planes come with no payload installed. That's one reason why they fly like rockets. Some aftermarket planes have a payload calculated in, and some don't. Read on for where to edit this...

You can put a payload in your plane by doing a little editing in the aircraft.cfg file. Look for a section labeled {weight_and_balance}...it should contain several "stations" that can be loaded as you prefer. If your particular plane doesn't have this section, you can cut-n-paste it in from one of the default planes and load your plane accordingly.

Some payware planes (like the Flight1 Cessna 421 and others) have a little utility program that makes this job easier. There was also one or more "loader" programs for FS2000, but I don't know if they work with FS2002.

Personally, I usually like to edit my payload before each session. Different cargo weights in different locations on the plane for each flight. Adds a little more "realism" to the flight. It does affect CoG performance, and yes, you can overload a plane too! :D
