Hello all.

I've recently re-installed FS2002 onto the new pc, and of course the default everything form MS is, well, pretty ugly.

What addons/changes/mods do people recommend to make it "as real as it can be" ? Like replacement textures/sounds/ATC/etc...

Thanks.

I suppose you could start by fixing that default AI. Add gates with TrafficTools then go to www.projectai.com and download some real world airlines.
The freeware FSD T-38 Talon is my favorite addon, check it out.
The freeware MelJet 744 is another super addon.
If you like carrier operations, arrestor cables are a must have. They're downloadable on this site somewhere.
There's alot of outstanding free & pay ware around, have a look!

I'd add that ActiveSky wxRE is amazing. I bought it this weekend and have been amazed at how much it adds to the realism of flying VFR. Check it out at http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/

If you go to the file library and look at the most popular downloads of the year you'll get some really good ideas.

Happy flying,
Steve

Thanks. Yes Arrestor Cables is an amazing add on.

My video of the F14 uses that, well the takeoff part... I just haven't gotten around to finishing the landing trap just yet.

My idea was to modify:
AI planes with other textures
ATC nameing flights with real flights
Traffic Tools for real flightplans
something about clouds.

But if anyone has some ideas on which files to look for, I'd be eternally grateful.

FSUIPC is a freeware must-have. FSNAV 4.X is well worth the $30. For aircraft, the freeware Fokker 70/100, the FSD T38, and Mike Stone's Boeing 727 are all excellent. If you like small GA types, Dreamfleet's Archer is very good. RealAir's SF260 is a great aerobatic aircraft that can also be used for cross country. The Iron Knuckles DC9, the new PSS Dash8, and many more - it all depends on the type of flying you enjoy.

>FSUIPC is a freeware must-have.

...if it doesn't cause random crashes and lock-ups on your system like it does on mine.

I have installed FSUIPC on several systems and I have never had a problem with it.

I would add FSNAV as mentioned before. Won't fly without it.

Hmm, unlucky. Mine works ok too. Is there a cinflict with AV or something ?

I'm curious to see what others are using for scenery/clouds/textures etc.

Plus, is there an easy to follow guide to changing all the AI a/c to real ones, with real ATC names, etc ?

TTraffic sounds good, alas with the exchange rate here, it works out at $70 ! Ouch.

Kai Tak for 2002 is great and does not effect frame rates...

I happen to think that the default FS2002 is great looking even without the addons. Course the addons enhance the sim and make it much more. As far as FSUIPC goes, I had no problems whatsoever with it until that last version 2.94. That one won't work on my system. I get the third party software error message and the sim loads without it. So I use an earlier version.

Alienware PIV 2.53 533mhz; Dragon Full Tower 340 Watt PS; 512mb PC-1066 Ram; Intel D850EMV2 Mobo; ATI Radeon 9700 Pro 128mb; 40 gig Western Digital 7200; Koolmax Cooling; SB Audigy 5.1; 16x/48x DVD-Rom; (FS2k2 Running at 16x12x32 4xAA & 16xAF locked at 20fps.)

I picked up 'VFR Photographic Scenery: East and South-East England' at the weekend. Living in that particular neck of the woods I have to say that there is nothing more realistic than flying from your local airport, over rolling hill and sprawling towns, looking down and actually seeing the street you live in. That scenery pack is downright awesome.

If you live in England - get it, and the next three that are due for release any time now.

I second that - awesome is the word, definately worth the money, however i do live in the scenery , so my opinion is proberly affected by the fact i can see my own street. But even if you dont live in the scenery the whole thing looks unbelievibly real from about 4000-5000 feet.

proberly cos it is ! :-)
