Hi all,
Hopefully someone will be able to help me here. About a week ago I bought a new sound card (SoundBlaster Audigy MP3+). I installed it with no problems. Over the course of the workweek, I had very little time to work with the sim, but I did do a little in the way of joystick assignments, sensitivities, etc. Nothing major and I had had no problems with the sim working on my computer since I bought it last year.
Tonight I finally found some time to fly a complete flight. What I found when I tried to load FS2002 up was very unsettling. The splash screen was on for about 5-7 secs. then just vanished and returned me to the desktop. My sound was also gone! All other programs on my computer were fine (except no sound also). I reinstalled the drivers for my sound card and got the sound back, but the sim still will not load properly. I've tried retstarting my computer several times, but with no luck.
My computer specs are:
SONY VAIO Digital Studio 866 MHz
384 ram
Hercules 3D Prophet MX
Windows Me

Any help would be greatly appreciated!! One more interested piece of information: From the time I first installed FS2002, there was an error loading a scenery file (located in Australia); when loading, I would be reminded of this and had to respond to a message that it was OK to load the sim anyway. Does this have any bearing on this problem?

I'm far more concerned that this apparently happened suddenly and with no reason than I am that I have the problem present. I know it will get fixed, I just do not know why it developed in the first place.

Please let me know if anyone has any suggestions or possible solutions to this.

Thanks so much,
Bob (KMOD)

Delete/re-name FS2002 .cfg, re-start sim. You'll need to reset preferences abd it will start in low res, but is
t's quicker than re-installing. Much quicker.

FS does seem to have serious problems recognising new hardware.

are there any drivers you needed to update at the soundblaster site? i had to, for my Audigy MP3/WinXP.

Hi,
Thanks for the responses. I reinstalled the soundblaster drivers (that came with my card last week) and that took care of the sound problem. I probably should upgrade my drivers if newer ones are out there. FS2002 is up and running also; although I still get an error with the austw.cab file. I called microsoft about that and they have come to the conclusion my CD is bad, so they're sending a replacement CD#3 to me.
I really am concerned as to why this vanishing splash screen and sound problem occured out of the blue; although I know "something" must have caused it. I just hope it doesn't happen again.
Again, I very much appreciate your responses Simon and Keyno.
The helped me.
