View Full Version : No GPS in any FS9 planes

I couldn't find this topic anywhere using search, and I didn't feel it would be right interjecting into this thread post (http://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?220105-No-GPS-in-FSXor-FS9), being I don't have the FSX issues, so...

All my cockpit gauges are black/empty now, they've been this way for about a week now.
No matter what plane I use (default or payware), the cockpit gauges are not there, just empty spaces.

I go to the toolbar menu at the top of the screen, go to 'Views', then 'GPS', and the GPS box pops up, but is totally black.

In FSX, everything is working properly, this is only in FS9.

I did see something here in the forums about the line in the panel.cfg saying that the "visible" should read 1 instead of 0. I can't find that forum post now.
Now looking into some of the other plane's panel.cfg's, I do notice some lines have the "visible" set at 1, then scroll down in that same file and see some "visibles" set at 0. I'm not sure if all the lines need set to 1, or what line(s) needs left alone.
(I don't feel confident in changing ANYTHING in the cfg's, to be honest about it).
I never changed these variables, but sometime in the past week something changed drastically for the worse.

Again, on any plane used in FS9. This is on a Windows 7 system. Any ideas or help would be appreciated. Thanks.

"visible=1" just means the panel will be in view when you load the plane from the menu, generally this is only used for the main 2D panel.

I'd check the Gauges folder for "fs9gps.cab" and if it's not there, restore it from your install disks. It might be a good idea anyway as some addons are known to overwrite the fs9gps.cab with the FSX version which doesn't work in FS9. Here's a guide:

Having had exactly the same problem recently, I extracted all .gau files from the original FS9 Disk 2 into a temporary folder, then copied them into the main FS9 gauges folder. Overwrite if asked.
And voila...! Everything is back to normal :-)

Yes, I did as you suggested and (as Stuart said), everything is back to normal, and working fine now.
Thank you for posting your flight sim page guide for better comprehension -it helped me tremendously!

My recent addon must have did something (as you said) to the Gauges folder.
It all makes sense now -my problems started immediately after installing and using this new addon...
Many of the files were indeed missing. I never knew that the addons could have messed with or deleted some of these folders.
That's very helpful advice, and a good thing to know for future reference.

Thanks again for your assistance, and the guide!
