This seems to be a fairly big issue with a lot of people. Let me give up some suggestions based on what I've learned so far.
I'm using MS 7, so what I'm going to say is based on that.
Let's get started with the basics. First, you need to make sure that your OS (Operating System, in my case... Windows 7) recognizes your device. To check this, go to your "control panel" then from there, click on "sound". In the sound area, you'll see, "recording" tab. Click on that. If you picked your "input" device correctly, you should be able to talk and see the little equalizer thing move up and down as you talk. Ok, if that works, then you go to the next step.
Now that you know your input device works and is recognized by your computer, you need to set some adjustments in the "flight" game itself.
Once you're in the game, you can hit your "home" key after which you'll select the "settings" option. From there, select "Voice".... in the voice settings area, you'll see the "voice recording" and "voice playback" options. Make sure your device is listed there and select it in both of those two options. If you have the correct input device selected, you should see the little equalizer thing under recording device move as you talk. Make sure the mic "mute" option is unchecked.
Lastly, there are two other settings that are important. The mic threshold and the mic volume. The threshold slider option has to do with how sensitive your microphone is. I suggest that you move that slider all the way to the left. As far as the mic volume... I recommend that you set it about 25% from left to right on the slider.
Also, make sure that your input's device's "mute" button is off! Also make sure that your input device's volume is all the way up until you find a comfortable level.
For those of you using the "Steam" download... there are other settings there which you may have to adjust (not familiar with those because I didn't get "flight" from Steam...... but if the above isn't working and you're using Steam.... you may have to fiddle around with those settings.
Good luck guys/gals....
PS... NEVER be afraid to ask questions when playing multi player. If you do not ask, you may never know the answer. If you see me flying around (which I do quite often) please ask me for assistance. I'm MORE than happy to share with you what I know.
